Stock intake lower resonator

Hi guys. I was just browsing through threads and read a post about someone asking how to install a CAI. Well, that lead to a DIY for a nismo CAI. I don't have any real interest for a CAI, but there was a pic of the stock airbox which caught my attention. A lot of us have installed Z-tubes to eliminate that resonator and have a smooth tube for the intake from stock airbox. However, I never even realized that there was a lower resonator connected to the stock box.

Now, the question I have is has anyone here ever considered removing that lower resonator and plugging the hole? Or even better creating another air inlet to allow cooler air to enter the box? I always assumed that the airbox continued down with a pipe that way for a 3rd inlet. But I guess I was wrong.

Any ideas? I'd like to do it and give feedback, but I would like to get some feedback from you guys first whether or not it would even be worth the effort.

Thanks!

instead of doing all that work...just get a Ztube from a 350z... you can find a used one for like 45 dollars

I pulled mine out and did not plug it, car runs fine. since the air box resonator is before the filter, there is no danger in letting it be open.

i believe it creates a vacuum effect or something if you dont plug it. im not expert on it but i did an extensive search on this a while ago and thats what i read. ultimately, i found this to be useless so i didnt do it. but if you say so

edit: here is less than 5 mins of searching some are helpful. some arent. but its been done before

I guess I wasn't using the right keywords. "lower" "intake" "resonator" gave me useless results. Thanks for the links. =) I'm not even sure I'm going to do it, I just figured it would make the stock airbox even more efficient.

i pulled mine off and capped the stock airbox where they connect, it seems to work like a vaccuum system and ran funny without it being plugged up
