Changed to CAI but..

Last week I installed my CAI in my coupe and as I was taking out my OEM filter I noticed that it was incredibly filthy. My car is at approx. 11,000 miles and I have had the oil changed thrice. One at 3750, #2 at 7500, and #3 at 10,500 because I wanted synthetic oil in it so badly. I really don't know what to think so that is why I am asking you all what you would think if you were to encounter this filter sitting in your car and at the same situation. Should I think that the Infiniti dealership isn't doing everything they are supposed to at a service visit? I have never seen an air filter so filthy in my life but maybe I am overreacting. I doubt it. I must say that the gas mileage in my car has improved tremendously so much so that I try to find ways to burn extra gas. I feel so guilty getting such good gas mileage because it is something that I have never had with this car.

I believe the first air filter inspeccion is at 15000 miles, Where in the hell have you been driving??
I changed mine at 5000 to replace it with a K&N and it was immaculate

Re: Changed to CAI but..

Yes, I see that in my scheduled maintenance booklet that the air filter isn't even looked at until it needs to be replaced at 30k miles. I drive the public roads of the Chicago area and it is construction season but I do avoid most of the really dirty construction areas. My flter just looks way to the extreme. And when I wash my car every week it doesn't seem like it is really overly dirty other of course when it has rained. Maybe if most people are not getting their air filters checked when their cars are serviced, you might want to take a look at your air filters once in awhile.

I think I'm going to have to replace my in-cabin filter early, as that ash smell is just persisting in my car.

Re: Changed to CAI but..

At 2300 miles i replaced my stock filter with stillen & 350 z tube combo.... Mine looked just about as dirty, and i pamper my baby, i try to never drive anywhere there is a lot of dust or dirt on the road! I was amazed at how dirty it was, and how the dirt was proportioned on it too, not evenly at all! I wonder what the K&N cone will look like in a few more months?

Peace

Re: Changed to CAI but..

I went to the Stillen cold air box....with KN filter.....and when I changed it the OEM filter was dirty ..not real bad but dirty , with only 3,000 miles on it. I would change the filter twice a year , to keep the car running good . They are cheap and they make a difference when they are clean
