exhaust is 2 loud help.
exhaust is 2 loud help.
i expect this has been covered loads before, but im new to this car/site, so appologies if im in the wrong area.
i have a 2004 coupe, and have just put an injun exhaust on (the new 2.5" one,) with kinetic hi-flow cats.
the problem is its now tooo loud.
i love the look and the sound from the rear, but inside it drones and is to loud for my tastes.
can i put back the original cats? will this quiten her down at all, or be a waste of time?
or can i add some sort of baffle, that wont hamper performance?
thanks for your time.
david.

Agreed with Hero..start with the cats and then decide from there if you want to add resonators..Yea the drone gets a little annoying at times especially if its your daily driver. I don't drive my car everyday so it doesn't bother me as much but if there was one thing I could change it would without a doubt be the drone.

leave the cats. get rid of the exhaust. get the hks if you don't want the drone noise in the car.

I got the same exhaust. You can loose the drone/vibration by keeping the car at a slightly higher rev as its at its worst in low revs.
Forget wasting money on boot sound insullation etc as they only make a small difference (i did it with Dynamat). The noise/vibration i believe comes from the mufflers being under a part of the floor pan which vibrates like a drum into the rear of the car so i have ordered a wrap to fix around the two mufflers so preventing the vibration waves from bouncing against the underside of the car, its cheap and can easily be removed if it doesn't work. It is also good for high temperatures.
I will post my results.

However I hope my post was of some HELP to you Dr Dave.
Well, from my experience. The drone was pretty bad when I first put exhaust on my G. But, over time I realized the drone seems to be lower. So it does not bother me anymore. I can at least have a conversation in my car now with yelling over the drone.
Do not put dynomat down on the floor of the car..its nto going to help that much, its expensive, and its heavy as hell. Dynomat is made to obsorb sound waves its not made to make something sound proof. If you want to do anything to help just put down some insulator underneither the carpet.
If you take out the back seats you will see that there is a foam like material that lays underneith the seats, its the same material that you put underneith carpet in your house. If you go to home depot and buy some of that and then just lay that down on the floor that will help alot.
Thats alot of work though, but yes putting the stock cats back on will help alot.
