I'm sorry to say, but your MAF is finished.

That's what I'm thinking too. I just wish I would know what I did to damage it....that's the frustrating part.

What's the going price on one of those sensors? I replaced the stock airbox...is that covered in the warranty?

I believe this will work:

Double check first before you blame me if it doesn't.

Thanks, but I'm just going to go to the dealership and try to get it covered through the warranty. It makes me nervous to try and install that pop charger back in.

Maf Problem

On my buddies 4runner we swapped in an intake and right away it started running terrible. As soon as you would try to accelerate the SUV would bog and almost die. We returned it to stock and had the same problem. We ended up tracing it back to the MAF Sensor. Apparently removing it from the stock intake and re-installing in the new one caused whatever was loose inside to finally come apart. We barely moved it around at all.
There was no oil or dirt on it when we pulled it out.
Also, your car is more than likely going into a pre-programmed "safe mode" when you disconnect the MAF, allowing it to idle.
Good luck at the dealer.

I just dropped it off to the dealer . its covered under the warranty so its all good. I'll install the intake once I get my car back along with my z tube and plenum spacer. i'll have to be really careful this time if that's possible.

This happened to me in my Maxima with a stillen popcharger. I had to replace the MAF. Sorry but I agree, I think your MAF is toast.

The thing that puzzles me is that I thought that I handled the MAF very carefully while I was doing the install. It's frustrating because I just got the damn car and have a garage full of stuff I want to install.

It's good that the warranty is going to cover it. The bad thing is that the Infiniti service dept. here in KC is booked until April 30th. I dropped off the in hopes that they'll squeeze my car in the event of an appointment cancellation. So, I'll be driving the Z until that time...

I too think your MAF is hosed. But the question is why? It's either from shock, or from being fouled by the filter oil. I'm betting on the latter, because like you mentioned, it ran well at first.

Good luck with the warranty. I don't know how your service department is, but I know my service department warned me about using aftermarket oiled filters. They said that if I ever had a MAF issue, and they inspected it and found evidence of oil, that I would have to pay for the MAF out of pocket.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I just got a call from the dealership and they managed to squeeze my car in between their scheduled appointments. The service manger I worked with was cool as hell. He replaced the MAF and even installed a new filter for me. This was a lot better turn around time compared to the original appointment of April 30th.

I'm picking her up today and I just found out my chrome Z-tube is due to arrive today as well so I'll be reinstalling the pop charger along with the Z-tube and plenum spacer. I pray to God that the MAF doesn't get messed up again.

So, do you mean don't oil it all? The oil is supposed to help the filter trap any impurities in the air.

Doesn't the popcharger come preoiled? And did you just oil it again? With the amount of oil it sounds like you've applied I'd be surprised if any air can get through the media.

I actually am ordering an AEM filter to use with my stillen intake so I don't have to oil mine. Mainly cuz I am too lazy to clean AND oil my filter.

No I didn't oil it again over the pre-oiled one. I did a full cleaning to remove any oil from the filter and then "re-charged" the filter with new oil....lightly.
