Exhaust "fix it" ticket

So here I was driving my G around town the other day, when all of a sudden a cop pulls me over. When he approached the car, I told him I wasnt speeding, he said I was going thru my gears too fast. He took all my information, and 20 minutes later he handed me a "fix it" ticket...for my exhaust being too loud. He also said I had to show the CARB # to get the ticket removed.

I have a Stillen dual cat back exhaust. Stillen dual cat back exhaust does not have a CARB #. So what to do? The Stillen exhaust looks like the factory exhaust, so do I just show up and say its been changed out? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

^if that does not work out, call ur local CHP office and tell them the situation and ask them to give u a California certified exhaust sound level check place. Go there and u should be at about 80dbs (legal limit is 94db). Get the certificate for free and get the ticket signed off. Make sure u have that certificate in ur car at all times.

Exhaust Noise Limits: California regulations contain a number of sections specifying permissible vehicle noise levels. The Bulletin advises that passenger car exhaust systems [Q9] that comply with the requirements of Section 1036(d)(1), 13 CCR are deemed to comply with Vehicle Code enforcement Sections 27150 and 27151, governing mufflers and exhaust system modifications. [Q10]. The exhaust noise provisions in 1036(d)(1) establish a limit of 95 dB(A) measured 20 inches from the exhaust pipe outlet with the engine operating in neutral, at a specified speed typically between 3000 and 5000 rpm (see regulations for details). [Q9]. Exhaust system modifications are permitted to increase noise above the level of original factory installed systems as long as the 95-decibel limit is not exceeded. [Q10].

+1, they rev and hold the rpms at 4500 rpms for our cars to be exact.

There are quite a few tracks that will kick you out if your exhaust exceeds 95 decibels, so you wouldn't want a exhaust regardless of legality that is past the 95 db limit.

No aftermarket exhaust is going to pass that 95db sound level. The only way to get it louder than that is to strait pipe the whole exhaust.

I finally took care of the fix it ticket...it was pretty easy. got the windshield replaced. I am not to thrilled about the work, scratching the paint in some not so obvious areas. I drove to the Police department and the officer looked at my windshield, and listened to my "stillen dual cat back exhaust" and it was all good. No noise test or anything. Woo Hoo...

There are many aftermarket exhausts that go past the 95dB level. I would bet some of the G ones would not pass.

Most aftermarket for the G exhausts average at about 85-95 db at the upper end of the rpm range. There are several that are louder than 95 db. (95 db for an exhaust is not very loud, I can guess that those loud aXX Harleys riding around hit over 100 easy). Sport Z Magazine tested DB on several of the exhausts, and the Stillen was under 95 db through the whole rpm range, so you should be fine.
