I appreciate the feedback. The fact that the tips are not even the same makes me think that there is certainly something wrong. Here are the larger images

 

not the best welds... but not rookie quality either... I'm not familiar enough with Borla (close up detail) to know if that's typical of their product... but like I said my Stillen tips are staggered and I think other brands are too... not so sure that's unusual... in fact isn't OEM slightly staggered? They are shorter but I think they might be staggered too (I haven’t had OEM on for so long I can’t remember what they look like...

 

After talking to Borla (sent them the pictures) they were about as baffled as I was. They are going to send a new one, so I guess my rant is for the time being...complete.

 

it would be funny if the replacement they send has the tips staggered the OTHER way!!! With a note that reads: “Ooops, sorry, here’s the corrected version – Love Borla”

{not really funny for you, so I hope it doesn’t happen - but you know what I mean..}

 

Dear annoyed customer...if you take the correct tip off of this exhaust and duct tape it on the bad one, everything should be fine.

PS: we have included the tape.

The tips on my Borla were the same way, staggered, and a bit off. 3 seconds with a pry bar staightened the tips and took a bit of the stagger out. That Borla exhaust lasted all of 4 days on my 5AT G. It's just way too loud and introduces too much vibration thanks to Borla leaving out the OEM flex sections in the Y-pipe.

 

What do you expect.....

Ahhh, that explains everything. Hmmm I never knew that. I wonder if most people do?... I have a suspicion it wouldn’t be so popular if they did.

 

hahahahhaahaha i cant stop looking at those pictures. it looks used and it also looks like they just welded some other borla tips from a different exhaust. hahaha man sorry about that. you should go kill em, i would've been pissed

Borla is pretty quiet compared to Stillen. And what aftermarket exhaust, for a G35 or 350Z, that you know of has flex sections? Mmyea.

 

yep... in fact I like the Borla sound better... but from the research I did Stillen kills it in performance...

 

The Borla might be quieter compared to others, but it's still annoyingly loud for a sport luxury car like a G35. The gains aren't great either. The guy that bought my Borla gained a mere 5 whp from 5000-7000rpms with his 05 6MT. That kind of gain wouldn't even register in the 1/4 mile. I'm much happier with the 06 sedan pipe and a slightly revised intake box.

Some of the Japanese brands made for the coupe/Z do have flex sections. Stillen, Borla, and IS are oblivous to the engineering need of flex sections and/or their just too lazy and cheap to add them.

 

I have had no problems with the functionality, performance or otherwise with the design of gen 1 Stillen on my sedan...
