Re: Plastic Plenum

When this thread was started, I had already made up my mind to buy a Crawford. Good bang for the buck. Now, I've decided to wait to see how this plenum works out. I spoke with a few fellow engineers and we all believe this will be a solid alternative. We've had similiar resin in our thermotron at up to 80-90 C. That's some serious heat.

Re: Plastic Plenum

I may be wrong...but isn't it weather the Plastic Plenum can withstand the heat or not..but will it withstand long term heat... hours of driving but at steady lower heat rate... Does plastic have the same sinkrate as aluminum and steel?

I'm very curious as to how this will turn out...wanted to buy the crawford plenum too but looks a little raw around the edges...and not worth another 500 bucks to have it polished...

Re: Plastic Plenum

The only thing I am worried about is this plenum warping at the mating surfaces with the lower plenum, and not that it will melt. If the mating surfaces warp and create a leak, which is not outside ofthe realm of possibilties with such a product - it woud be worthless. Yes, the Crawford does NOT look very sexy - but it does a VERY good job. Also, it is certainly NOT an option for the FI guys like myself - as the positive pressure from within will exacerbate the potential problem I mentioned here.

Also, we don't know what the acoustics are with this plenum. The thinner metal plate of the crawford plenum already allows for more of the engine sound to come through. Who knows if this plastic plenum will exhibit more of a problem in this regard. Who knows about the sound dampening effect of plastics vs. aluminum??

Re: Plastic Plenum

New Premium Performance Plenum
Form Crawford.

Applications: Nissan 350Z - Nissan Murano - Infiniti G35c - Infiniti G35s - Infiniti FX35

Price : UNDETERMINED
Original Plenum Core Charge : $200.00 (Refundable)

Using an newer design we have been able to raise the plenum ever so slightly higher. Power gains in our opinion will be minimal to none, but for looks it raises the bar entirely for the setup.

Another piece we are proud to add to our line-up. Prices to be announced soon.

Woah! Carlos! Where did you get that set up? That looks awesome! Looks like an american muscle car intake manifold. Tell me where I can get one of those!

Re: Plastic Plenum

That Carlos crossfire plenum should solve the uneven air charge distribution problem. From the looks of it, it replaces the entire intake assy. to the heads. In effect, a tunnel ram. Should be good for very large high RPM gains, but probably a significant loss of torque down low. Fine for a MT car where you can launch, but shitty for a AT unless you have a high stall convertor. Great intake for drag and strip, but wouldnt do it on a daily driver around town. Go with FI at 5-6 PSI and you have a safe, reliable 70-80 HP/torque gain with stock factory certified engine parts.

Re: Plastic Plenum

That's a good point, but how much more would it cost? FI would at least cost several G's while the intake manifold that carlos showed would probably be less than 1 G! And you may loose a little low end, but I don't think it should be detrimental.
But I still think that thing looks awesome. :-)
