Taking out resonator question...

Sooooo yesterday I a guy who also had a G35. His exhaust sounded very unique to me as it made this sick raspy noise. I asked him what his setup was and he said that he had just took his resonator off.

My question is....

#1 Is this a good thing to even do for your car (Engine wise and all)?

#2 Is it illegal to take it off?

i cannot see how removing it would be illegal since it has no emissions function unless it made the vehicle too loud and possibly pick up a noise violation. it will not harm the car. however, most people go to some lengths to prevent rasp which can occur from removing the resonator section and replacing it with straight piping. if you like the sound then have it cut out. worst case, you hate it and they reweld the resonator section back in.

1) won't harm the car

2) won't affect emissions, only sound.

you can always replace the stock resonator with a smaller one. a few people have done this.

Exhaust Noise.......BBLLLLLLLLLLAAAAA!

If you lived in Florida where there are very few regulations you could install
test pipes and possibly free up some better sound. That would beat raspyy.

Nah' I got new plans now. I was going to leave the OEM muffler w/e-cut out mid pipe before, but i'm going a different route. Basicially super custom exhaust. lol. aka ghetto exhaust system

high flow cats will definitely make it deeper. i had this setup for a while.

read the following two quotes by someone who has replaced the resonator. that might help you make your decision.

Yes it made the exhaust louder, but it also added a honda rasp to it - VERY VERY slightly noticeable - but you can hear it if its your car from the inside of the cabin - but again, it is incredible minut. I told the dude to leave it straight pipe without resonator to see how it sounds......turned it on...i like o_O....rev....CRACK POP BING BANG RICE HONDA.....it said all that, i swear... lol

So i took it for a spin in the same shoping mall.....only to turn right back after i had my 30 seconds of ricer fun. He added his random resonator to the pipe, and it cut out the cracking, overall i think im happy with it.... I have had the car for a little over a year and the change is nice -its louder by a noticeable amount, and it idles louder. Like i said, it does crack a little at high RPM's but then again....so do $1200 exhaust set ups.

One warning though.....remember the gurgle the g35 is known for coming from 4k to 3k rpm? yea....that kinda died out - its noticeable, but a good 50-60% of it is gone, its there...just alot lower. When you punch it though you do hear it from inside the cabin and from outside as well. I took some video clips but they are on a CD i burned, and for some reason the sound doesnt work.... ill try and get them on here if not by tonight then by tomoro.

oh, and it was not 10$ like someone mentioned it might be!! the freaking dude ripped me a new one, 75 bucks

Will this enhance air flow or does not do anything?

some will argue that, theoretically, a full straight pipe is going to flow better than a pipe with some sort of baffler in it.

however, even if that is true..being what is it and where it is, removing it isn't going to affect performance at all.

Ok...so Otacon132 car sounded sick! But what is this generic resenator he put into his car? I mean i know he has the Z-Tube installed but to get the noise he did I need apparently some generic resenator. I would much rather have the setup Otacon132 has than just take out the resenators alone.
