why X pipe

i know this subject has been touched on before, but i was explainig to a friend yesterday about the stillen true dual and an interesting question came up:

why does an X pipe work better than a straight through design? wouldnt having no X or H or whatever pipe be better becuase there are less bends in the piping?

Re: why X pipe

a X pipe creats some kinda better flow. i dont realy understand it but some how becuase they cross it makes the gases come out faster. also an H pipe creates equal pressure betewn pipes and makes better flow as well

Re: why X pipe

An X-pipe is aerodynamically superior to an H-pipe. An X-pipe equalizes pressure in both pipes and improves exhaust gas scavenging.

Re: why X pipe

One more time... the x-pipe improves exhaust gas scavenging and cylinder "charging".

Here's a good article on the real world benefits.

Re: why X pipe

im not talking about X pipe vs. H pipe. im speaking of X pipe verses no crossing pipe at all. just a straight pipe.

Re: why X pipe

The article mentioned above shows the relative merit of open header vs. H-pipe vs. X-pipe, and describes the whole deal in detail. Give it a shot.

A great and simple read - thanks bullseye! Just waiting to pull the trigger on the Stillen system, this adds more ammo to the thought.

Re: why X pipe

The read is great, and DaveO is one of my go too guy's.
I spoke with a borla rep. who told me the H and X pipes
add some turbulance, slight back pressure, and some
torque. The same is true of smaller dia. exh.sys. pipeing.
More hp gains on the top-end can be made straight through.
I said it before " choose your manufactor, pay your $, and be
happy".
