been thinking of getting this upgrade, but I won't get it if it sounds ricey, no matter what the gains... would appreciate any help. Also wanted to know how easy it is to install/swap back to OEM (my car is leased).

 

I don't think anybody actually has this setup here...
but I'd like to know what it would sound like also, since I am considering the same setup. I want to keep the stock exhaust for now because I haven't decided if I will be going FI or not. but I would like to free it up a little and get a deeper sound out back.

seems to me some high flow cats would serve the purpose. what do you guys think?

I'm probably going to put in the JWT Popcharger first. then Cats.
then see about the Plenum or FI at a much later time.

 

The cats have been a great way to free up some power throughtout the power band, from the dyno results I've seen on the 350Z board. It is the same or better than nearly all of the cat back exhausts. They increase the sound on a stock exhaust very slightly, though at WOT above 4000 RPM it is more noticeable. Apparently at cruising speed and moderate throttle you don't really notice it much, if at all.

The Pop charger has also shown excellent results in the upper RPM's--usually 5000 and above. Be sure to get a Z tube if you're getting the Pop charger.

I have the rt cats on the stock exhaust and yes there is an icrease in sound, (only slighly if any under 4k rpms) ,but during WOT it makes the stock exhaust sound so much deeper. Also, butt dyno says ~7-10hp for sure.. I'am very pleased with it.

i already got a z tube... been debating about the popcharger, but i've read some posts where people added it on after having a tube already and it didn't add anything noticeable in terms of hp....

 

sound clip? Are your stock exhuast running lean now since you have the cats?

 

no sound clip.. sorry. On the running lean, i don't think so since my exhaust tips still turn really black after a week or so after a car wash.

 

How would RT Cat change the sound with the stillen exhaust that I already have. Its already quite loud and drones under load, and would not want to increase that.

 

I'd think that you'll get even more sound if you add the high flow cats to your Stillen exhaust. That's what I've heard re: every exhaust that the cats have been bolted to. The least change in sound seems to be with the stock exhaust and the Borla.

Did anybody manage to find some sound clips of either RT Cats or test pipes with a stock exhaust?

I remember some one on fresh alloy promised to post some vids but I can't find that thread anymore...

With all of the cats they've sold, the number of people with complaints is small. However, just thought you should know what could happen. As the thread states, there is a question as to whether the cats cause a lean A/F ratio that could be very bad. I've read other threads where the cats deteriorate and some particles may have been sucked back into the engine.

when you said it makes the stock sound so much deeper is that what you meant to say? I was under the impression that RT cats would make your exhaust sound deeper than stock.

I've had the Z-Tube and P/C combo with RT Cats and I liked the sound. I added the Crawford Plenum to the mix, and now I love the sound. Going for Y-Pipe and Fujitsubo exhaust next... Hoping to keep that deep sound under WOT. If anyone wants to hear this combo, stop by one of the Central Florida meets that we have. Check the SE Forum...

actually, I know that RT Cats are suppose to sound very good with stock exhaust.. I wish I can just get a clip of it. cuz I am also thinking about saving some money and getting pipes. thou I can't find a clip of pipes on stock exhaust either =(
