Hey guys what is the general idea about the throttle body spacer? Is any gain in hp and if it is what are the numbers?
I am planning to get one because it is only about $100 and it takes about 20 minutes to install it. I did it on my previous car.

 

On principal alone, I don't see how it can work. The vortex or rifling of the spacer bore is an absolute joke too. It's a ricer design and is border line Turbonator in design. A true automotive engineer would fall out of his chair laughing at the rifling design. Once again, we have aftermarket companies preying on people's ignorance when it comes to automotive design and principles.

A few G/Z cars have gained power and many haven't with the spacer. IMO, if a mod gains power, it's going to gain power on every car like an intake spacer. Seeing that these motors tend to gain power on each sucessive dyno, it's very easy to take the first "low" pull with no spacer and compare to the "high" pull with the spacer and make the claim that the spacer gained 5whp.

 

buy it. i recently installed one on my car and ive noticed smoother acceleration and if has fixed the "dead" areas in my powerband. there used to be a noticeable lag in accleration in the lower rpms when i shifted, but that lag is gone now. on top of that, its worth it for the sound increase alone! sounds great with any aftermarket intake.

 

I just added mine a few days ago and it is worth it i have more torque and car picks up quicker so i do recomend it.

 

I have never seen a before/after dyno of one and IMO it does nothing. I think people put them on and look for a small increase which they see whether it is there or not. It's not much money so if you want to try it, do it.

Most butt dynos are influenced by the mental perception that the mod should make power. I'm not saying that I know this one does not make power but I don't think it does. I bet $20 I could take someone for a drive in my car twice and tell them I added something for more power the second time and they would tell me it helped.

I've actually done this to prove a point to friend that swore he could feel a 10whp gain. I took the friend for a spin in my old 94 Z28 and did a quick 0-60mph run. I then stopped the car, told my friend to "check this out". Then I popped the hood, acted like I was fiddling with something by the engine, got back in, and did another 0-60 run and he was like "wow! what did you do?". I looked at him and said, "does it feel faster?" He said yes. I laughed and said all I did was open the hood and moved my arms under the hood.

i never expected a gain at all. just did it for sound. im telling you after the install no more dead spots. my dad just borrowed my car and he just asked me what happened to the "areas where the car didnt feel like there was much power". ive modded my car a lot in the past and i do believe some mods have been a waste (grounding kit for example). i was expecting something from the wires and didnt feel anything. i wanted to feel something but nothing. with the TBG spacer i didnt want to feel anything and i did feel something. its worth the under $100 price tag. better choice than an intake imo.

 

Like I said, to each their own. If it does help that is great. I would like to see someone do a back to back dyno with and without.

I highly suggest reading the article attached below. Particular attention should be paid to the last paragraph (however the entire read is worth it). It is all spelled out very nicely and hits the nail right on the head! Quite honestly with any mod, the only advise I accept is from my own testing or others that have actually tested the mod. There are plenty for all mods on this car. Theoretical evaluations frankly do nothing for me in determining a particular mods value.
