question on stillen cone filter
hey guys i was just wondering if anyone knew why stillen put that chrome cap on the front of their cone filter? imo it doesnt make sense cause you would think that more air could be sucked in with an open front, like the popcharger. anyone know if there is some specific reason, like does it work better like that with their shield?

yeah i switched to my pop charger, but my question is if anyone knows (or has an idea) as to why stillen decided to do that to their filter. they must have done R&D with both types, and they picked their current type for a reason.
It is prob cheaper to just have the cap on it, It is just a K&N filter with there name on it. If I had to guess I would day having the opening on the cone costs more money, plus then they have no place to stamp there name!
I'm not a Stillen or K&N rep - but I would bet they would say it’s for better filtration… air travels past perimeter surface area and not through filtration system… even though the popcharger has additional filtering after the opening it might be the theory that closing nose allows for broadest filtering surface…
Frankly I only care about high intake volume – and anyone that wants performance would too… however, I don’t drive my car daily, so my needs are potentially different from other owners… FWIW - I have a Stillen filter, but would like to find a dry filter replacement … if I could determine the correct replacement I wouldn’t care if its closed or open ended…
IMO – you won’t see/feel any difference from the open-end vs closed end unless you are incorporating several other breather modification tweaks that benefit from better intake. Even then it will be very trifling… but when you’re trying to squeeze every bit – little things like an open-ended intake make a difference.
BTW – (in case anyone cares) the difference between open-ended popcharger and Stillens closed nose is nowhere near the difference from an extended ram intake sucking HOT air from the asphalt!
