do you guys think its possible to change out the muffler on the Stillen Dual Catback into perhaps the HKS or the Injen SES? i feel the muffler is restricting and would like it louder anyways.

also, i had a thought: the coupe guys are getting gains from upgrading their exhausts. given theses facts: the coupse are already 20 hp above ours, and the stillen gives about 20 hp gains, the conclusion i draw is that comparing a sedan and a coupe with modified exhausts, the coupe will still rate higher on a dyno. all based on numbers of course. doesnt that mean that we can still get more power out of our exhaust? i doubt that the extra couple inches of length of the sedan accounts for those ponies either.

Anything is possible with enough money, however I'd be willing to bet you'd lose power by changing the muffler.

The power difference between the Sedan and Coupe has been thoroughly discussed on G35Driver as well as other G35 Forums. I don't agree with your latest post's comments regarding the differences. Of course I've been wrong before.

yes, i know its been adressed to death, but the conclusions that have been drawn are that the only difference are in the exhaust system. but then again, i was thinking today that it is actually only the 5AT that is 260hp. the 6MT is actually much closer to the coupe power of 280. i guess ill have to see when i go to TS.

My custom system is a direct copy of stillen's G35/350Z true dual system. It does have detail differences. High flow cat's that utilize 2.5" pipe's off the header, vs oem 2.25" piping, my own X crossover design and 18" magnaflow resonators. I used two Injen SES mufflers. I can tell you, from having a Stillen equipped car parked next to mine that the stillen's sound at idle is actually a little deeper and a little louder than my Injen mufflered system. I did not go for a drive in the stillen car, so I can't say how they compair from idle.

Another side note, I run my Injen muffler's with the silencers in place. When I tested them without the silencers, yes it was louder, but I lost so much power, I immediately put the silencers back in. Another thing to say, I went with the Injen mufflers because I wanted to copy the sound quality of the Injen system on the 350Z/G35 coupe, but the reality is, the X-pipe cancel's out most all of the distinctive sound element's I was hoping for. Even though it's not the same sound, I still love the way it sounds.

One problem with the Injen mufflers is they don't fit very gracefully in the stock sedan location. When you try to put them high up, you run into the problem that you'll melt the bumper facia. I need to bring mine up another inch, but still they have to hang down way too much for my taste. Only way I can fix that would be to remove them from the car and slice off the tailpipe's and reweld them with a slight down tilt, I dunno.

Jim,

Your custom exhaust system looks real good to me. I know you put a lot of effort into designing and building it. I have a feeling that you may be overcritical of your work. Could you post a picture or two of your exhaust with your car sitting at ground level?

It's interesting that your system was quieter than Stillen's at idle. Wish you had been able to compare the systems under real world driving conditions.

wow, thats beautiful. actually, your system has a few less bends than the stillen system. where are you from? id be glad to bring my car to meet up with you to compare if we're local. any idea of dyno numbers?

Here are some pics of the car at ground level, I just took these a few hours ago. As I said earlier, I need to raise up the mufflers about 1" (just need to take out the slack in the hangers).









I don't have any dyno's done on the car, one of those things on my to do list, but it's not a priority honestly, just slightly curious that's all.

I live in central Cal, your more than welcome to come here. I plan on going to the 3/13 bay area meet.
