Just installed MR headers, and now I have a problem

OK....this weekend I took on the task of installing a set of megan racing headers on my 03 sedan. It took 2 days, but worth not paying someone. Let me tell you it SUCKED. But now I have a bolt on my steering linkage that comes in contact with the header at WOT. Has anyone run into this and is there anything I can do short of removing the headers? As you know they are hard enough to install; and I definately do not want to take them out.

Dusty

I installed my headers and the bolt doesn't touch could be the brand tho. The steering linkage is fairly close to the header

quick search shows that has been a problem that other people encountered. only solution mentioned was going back to stock.

maybe someone else has better suggestion.

I have Megan headers on my 06 6MT and did not encounter this problem at all...

Let me dig some up pictures from my install and I'll get back to you. If not, I am replacing my test pipes this weekend and I'll take some pictures then.

What I think may be happening is that your motormounts aren't as strong as they use to be and it's rocking more than it's suppose to. You could put in solid motor mounts or newer ones... which is a pain but it is definitely doable and shouldn't take as long as the header install.

Or take out the headers, sorry chief. That is my best guess.

Lots of vendors sell them on here. Megan makes some (only brand I can honestly think of off the top of my head) and others.

Good place to buy from.

Sorry that this happened. I didn't know that an 03 would have weaker motor mounts. It may be that they put upgraded ones in the 06 instead of them wearing out after 4 years. I've seen my engine when it was on the dyno, it didn't move at all.

Truly sorry about all of your trouble. When it rains it pours...

Found a fix

Just wanted to let you guys know that I found a fix, I hope that it doesnt cause any problems in the future. bu I shaved 1/8th inch from the small end of the steering linkage bolt and about 1/16th off of the head of the bolt. And now no more clearance issue. As with all headers I have had on EFI engines (only 2 vehicles), I lost a bit of low end but the high end feels like it improved.
