Re: Best CAI?

I'm a little bit confused. Don't you guys normally tell people posting such a offten discussed topic to "run a search"?

I think the short answer is the JWT popcharger with Z tube. And I HAVE the Injen.

Re: Best CAI?

Agreed that the search engine stinks.

What CAI is best boils down to this;

Are long tube CAI's the best?
Injen, AEM, K&N, Nismo(made by AEM)
Pro: No question's on providing cold air, if installed correctly
Con: Long tubing harder to draw from? (I've seen data to suggest it is)

Are CAI's that copy the OEM or add on to the oem system the best? Stillen, JWT popcharger ect.
Pro: Tweaking a already good oem setup
Con: Does said system really give the coldest air?

The OEM intake is very well designed by Nissan/Infiniti.
Pro: The oem system creates a positive charge (pressurizes)

at speed
Con:Need's to have oem resonator pipe removed and replaced with same 350Z part.
con2: Is it really so good that the aftermarket system's don't make more power?

Re: Best CAI?

Great, so we basically don't know anything more than we already did.
I installed the Injen and love it. Really changed the exhaust tune and can feel it pull smoother through the mid to upper range. I bought Injen based off of all the great recommendations I read on this board. If Nismo made a polished one, that would have been my second choice.

Re: Best CAI?

well if the polished intake was what u were looking for, then u should have gotten the aem, i believe aem makes the nismo intake, but correct me if mim wrong. i just installed the aem intake and absolutely love it!

Re: Best CAI?

My first mods to the sedan were CAI Injen, ECU/Consult II tweaking (timing, A/F, stuff like that), and unplugging the exhaust.

I enjoy the sound and butt dyno. I am having some more done next week and will post dynos with what the above do for a sedan.

Re: Best CAI?

XCELR8,
An air intake does NOT change your "exhaust tune"
It simply changes your intake sound...

Re: Best CAI?

IMHO...NISMO. Nobody knows the VQ better. When you take the stock system off take a look at all the baffles and turns that are in the the 5-6 pieces you remove. If nothing else you are improving the air flow vs all of those baffles and the CAI will be lighter.

Re: Best CAI?

Here's a comparision AEM CAI vs the pop charger on a 350Z. ( AEM makes the Nismo CAI)

K&N only------> 239hp 240ftlbs 13.77 @ 101.4 w/2.05 60ft

AEM/test-pipes/Injen SES/Crawford Plenum------>243hp 245ftlbs
13.74 @ 104.1 w/2.16 60ft

JWT pop-charger/test-pipes/Injen SES/Crawford plenum--->254 hp 241ftlbs **track times coming in 2 weeks**

Pop charger made 11 more hp than the AEM

Re: Best CAI?

I love my K$N Typhoon cai/sr sys. I also agree with Gsedan35
JWT Pop Charger & a 350Z int. tube or a $30.oo Chrome int.
tube ( total out of pocket $140.oo ) Might be the best deal.
Good luck

Re: Best CAI?

Don, I have the Injen RD1990 and I love it. Looks great and sounds awesome. I don't have any experience with any of the other CAI's.

Re: Best CAI?

Do you race or in it for show?

If show CAI anyone that looks nice to you.

If race then get Stillen High-Flow or POP Charger and a 350z Tube or any tube that will fit.. This will help as the tubes are shorter, more of a ram air, less dirt, no worry about water. Just make sure with the POP get the heat shield.

No intake will make great power on this car and the butt dyno should not be there with any of them. But iv heard the CAI people say low end is a lil losed and not realy gain on top.

Hope this helps..
