Service engine soon (SES) after reinstalling OEM air intake

Hey all,

I put the stock air intake back in today and accidentally started the car before connecting the air flow sensor just behind the airbox. So I reconnected and still see the SES light. So I disconnected my negative terminal for about two hours and pumped my brakes according to Motordyne's ECU reset procedure.

The SES light is still on and I'm now guessing that all is well and the readiness codes just need to be manually reset. Does this sound accurate?

LMK,
B

did you do the Motordyne method while the battery was unplugged?

Just need to reset the ECU. Made the same mistake when I installed the plenum spacer, forgot to connect the sensor. Instructions for the reset could be found in the DIY section, should take you few tries to get it right.

Yeah I did pull the power and the SES light's still on. Wonder if I just need to manually clear the code with an ODBII scanner...

ive only seen the pull the negative terminal work after a number of hours, around 10-12. if you are doing the pedal method then make sure the terminals are connected.

Got it thanks. The Motordyne docs weren't very clear about how long to leave the battery disconnected...and they also instructed pumping the brakes with the battery disconnected. Anyway, I'll leave it off overnight tonight and see what happens.

The battery disconnect method takes 10-12 MINUTES...before putting the cable back on, though, you need to put the key in the ON posiiton and hold the brake pedal in for about 30 seconds...

Even after disconnecting the battery for 24 hours the light was still on. I just drove it for a few days and it went off on its own...not sure if that helps but just figured I'd share it with you guys.

You'll know for sure in teh 50 miles or so of driving - if it comes back...you'll need to do some other troubleshooting. Some hard codes need drive time to clear. Without all the codes listed - it's hard to say what all was wrong or was tripped.

Here is what worked for me! I tried disconnecting the battery, Idle Volume, Throttle Position.. Only the ECU Reset Worked.

What worked for me is the ECU Reset.

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.
If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.

Hope this helps..

Isn't there a difference between SES and check engine? SES should be for routine maintenance.
