Lower plenum gasket tear. Problem?
Lower plenum gasket tear. Problem?
Hi,
I just received my Motordyne MREV2 and 5/16", and must say I am very excited to install and drive.
When I checked the package at delivery, I was concerned with the MREV2 and spacer and did not think to check the lower plenum gasket. They were very well protected with quite a few layers of bubble wrap, so I let the fedex guy continue with his deliveries.
After completely unboxing, I found that the lower plenum spacer was just placed in the bottom of the box, rather than inside the bubble wrap, and has torn at one of the bolt holes. The tear is not completely through the sidewall, so I am not sure if this will be a problem...

Since the tear is not complete, and I am not running any sort of forced induction, should i be concerned? I would prefer not to wait for a new one to be shipped, but a delay is preferable to engine damage (if it would be caused.)
Thanks,
-Boog

Just wait on the new one. If i've learned anything it's do it right the first time. That could cause a leak and even though your not FI you would still be sucking in unmetered air so it COULD cause you problems. You'd probably be alright but just get a new one.
Sounds like replacement is the best way to go. Guess I knew the answer before asking the question, but I was just hoping to hear that I was wrong.
Having new parts sit in my garage, but unable to install, makes me feel 15-20 years younger, waiting for Christmas morning. So very difficult...
Thanks guys,

I submitted an order online for a new gasket and 2 day shipping to get it here by the weekend for the install. Would run about $50 (after shipping), but then again, I have always lived by the motto: "Let the buyer beware."
Imagine my surprise when I received a personal email apologizing for the torn gasket, which I'm sure was due to FedEx, and that they are shipping out a new gasket free of charge.
I am VERY impressed with Motordyne Engineering customer service. Such treatment is not something I have come to expect in this day and age, and is a very welcome breath of fresh air.
