Stillen Airbox + Stock Airbox, Modding

Hey guys,

I'm very interested in modding the Stillen airbox. It uses a velocity stack, and I want to fab something that will enclose the filter element to shield it from hot air. Especially since summer is coming, I don't want to be waiting in the staging lanes at the track with the intake sucking up hot engine bay air.

Some questions:

1) Does anyone know how to fab using plastic? What tools do I need, and what can I used to make a custom enclosure?

2) Since the filter element will be in a sealed enclosure, will that create a vacuum? Is this good for power?

3) Is there any reason why the Stillen airbox is not enclosed?

4) Is there any type of minor modification I can make to my grille area to increase flow to the filter area?

5) Since the Stillen airbox uses a cone filter it presumably has more surface area, but since the top will be facing the airpath (top of the Stillen filter is metal) will that impede efficiency?
--> Another way of saying, is this worth it?

6) Relating to question #5, can I use another filter element that has an exposed top, such as the JWT filter, with the Stillen airbox velocity stack?

Note how the top of the filter cone is metal

I want to use something like this, so air will be absorbed as it hits the filer head on.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome. I have searched, but have not found anything like this.

The open ended Pop Charger element has been used with the Stillen Box already. It fits like a glove from what I have heard.
