NE1 change out their Stillen or Bora muffler?

This is sedan specific as the coupes have diff mufflers.

Why did you change and did it work? I'd like to calm the drone down on my Borla. I think it's the muffler as the drone is coming from the rear. Although I'd like to add an X pipe to the mix.

I added an HKS muffler for a short time. I absolutely loved the sound EXCEPT for the drone at 2500 to 3000 RPM. Of course, that the range I cruise at 90% of the time. So everytime I'd depress the accelerator such as to pass someone or to go up a slight incline the drone drove me up the wall. And I understand that the HKS is one of the quieter aftermarket mufflers. So I sold it to another member here. who I understand is very happy with his purchase, and went back to stock. I wish there was an option for better sound with no drone.

If you want more sound, but no drone, consider the 03/04 sedan muffler which has a smaller muffler cansister. I absolutely love my 03 sedan with 06 sedan midpipe. It's a bit louder than a stock 05/06 sedan, but doesn't have any of the annoying drone of the coupe middy, which I had for a short period of time.

Jeff-

IMO, I think you could get rid of bit of the drone by adding an X-pipe aft of the y-pipe muffler and then adding some more significant mufflers in place of the stock "bullet" mufflers. I'd also install OEM-style flex sections in the y-pipe. I think a lot of perceived drone comes from the NVH created by the lack of flex sections.

Dave. I'd like a X pipe for the scavenging and whatever noise cancelation it might offer. But IMHO all the drone is coming from the back end. I guess I'd have to have someone drive my car while I'm riding in another right next to it.

Drone is the engine tone resonating through the entire exhaust. I have not seen a G without drone...

Sure wish this wasn't moved here as I was referring to the sedan styled exhausts. Coupes are done diff.

my custom exhaust is designed just like the stillen with 2.25 piping all the way. Pipes come out of the cats into an x-pipe, then go into two small glasspacks, and then go into magnaflow muffler with two ins and two outs. Muffler is a true dual muffler because resonated pipes inside cross maintaining two pipe design instead of becoming 1 pipe inside the muffler. I added the test pipes recently and have a bit of rasp but before the test pipes it sounded sick and did not have any significant drone at any rpm.

Resonated X or normal? What muffler did you end up with? And did you do this custom exhaust all at once or did you have a set up and changed pieces along the way? I ask because I'm trying to find out what is the cause of the drone for my borla. 1) No x pipe or 2) muffler.

the x-pipe is not resonated. Magnaflow muffler. I did it all at once without touching it for over 1.5 years. I would guess the muffler is the one that is causing the drone. Do u have a picture of how borla exhaust looks like?
