Need advice on broken bolt...

Broke a bolt using a POS torch wrench installing plenum spacer. The bolt is the upper middle bolt on the plenum and it broke off inside the lower plenum... Can a repair shop safely remove it or am I better off just buying a new lower plenum? I looked around for a used one, and i found some for about $150 shipped... Can't spend too much right now so yea.... I have an '04 sedan

A good repair shop should be able to remove it as long as there is some bolt length left. If not, I imagine it will have to be drilled out and widened, which could make things difficult as you will have to use a larger bolt. A larger bolt would require also drilling the upper plenum. Doable, but perhaps not ideal.

Welp 14 ft lbs is not that much is it?. But since it broke off. Your problem now is small but it could become really huge. If you remove the lower plen, it is highly recommend to get new gaskets. They are expensive from the dealership. However on a good note most likely the bolt didnt bottom out. Remove the lower collector and see if any of the bolt is sticking out. If so all the tension on the bolt was from stretching. Meaning unless you cross threaded the bolt on the way in, it shouldnt be under a bind now. Which means all you need to do is back the remaining piece out. If you do start to involve a drill make sure to center puch the bolt and plug the intake ports with rags. hope this helped and made sense. later mike

Sears sells bolt extractor kits.

Try it. They work pretty good.
