It cost me 550 3 years ago. but i hade to use one muffler because mine is a sedan. U should be able to get that done in under $700. As far as the loudness goes, it was ~80 db at 4000 rpm with the mic right next to the muffler. I did not think it was loud at all. It does make a very nice sound with 0 rasp if u have stock cats. I loved the sound and got many compliments from many drivers on the road including one from a brand new RS4 driver at a red light.

Custom dual exhaust from Magnaflow....!

Putting this system together you definitely want to use the crossover which
will equalize the sides. What mufflers you use should be suggested by an
expert like my Son at Magnaflow....Chris 1-800-990-0905. Let him know you
want the muffler placement ahead of the rearend. You'll need a very flat
oval muffler for ground clearance....G/L!

this is the other idea i had, a little more simple i guess. It allows me to buy an aftermarket y-pipe instead of having to fab something up, so it saves a little bit of fab-time and cost possibly.

It uses a dynomax SS-ultra-flo 3in inlet to dual 2.5in outlets. its of a straight thru design, so no chambers like you get in other muffler designs. I would prefer a true-dual setup, but i really dont need it...im going for something thats light/performs well, sounds really good (to me at least) and comes in at bargain compared to other name brand systems.

If you are going to make a custom exhaust, I'd wouldn't even consider one w/o using an X pipe.

I would think though that if the bridge pipe between the y-pipe and the center muffler in the above design was short enough it would essentially be very close to the effect of a X-pipe...in theory at least, I dont know if there is enough room under the car to have a muffler where most y-pipes come to an end.

To my knowledge its not a continuous flow from the exhaust, its rapid pulses that seem to be continuous. so if that bridge pipe was short enough from the y-pipe to where it splits again the muffler, wouldnt that be close enough? If not, i think the difference would be marginal. If it wasn't too expensive I suppose I could try to make the design I have more modular and try to test them both once built...which I may even be able to do just digitally with my computer software, but I do not have the flow characteristics of our cars to do the testing with FEA.

If it would please anyone I suppose I could just test the two different designs under constant flow and see which one would work best in a "simulated lab-environment". Might take me a few weeks though, so we'll see.

Y pipe does't offer the same scavenging effects as a X pipe.

This is what I am going with after talking with Chris at Muffler Tech in Sacramento.

Summit Racing X-pipe kit $67.95
Magnaflow 10435 Mufflers (4) $68 each

The muffler design is two 10435s side by side behind the x-pipe followed by two 10435s separated by 6 inches then pipe the rest of the way. I do not have a sound clip so I am taking a chance on that.

Not at all...I already have HFCs. The X-pipe and mufflers are cat back. I will take pics during the install.
