Gefore anyone says it, I have searched thoroughly. I see a few posts about custom duals for sedans but not coupes. I have exchanged PMs with a coupe owner that has a custom magnaflow dual setup with 4" rounds in the mid-section rather than having mufflers in the rear. I have also exchanged PMs with a sedan owner that has a customer magnaflow dual setup with the mufflers in the rear. Is there a coupe owner with a rear setup or will the same mufflers fit on the coupe as do on the sedan?

 

not to sound like a smart ***, but if its a custom setup almost anything within in reason will fit where you want it...here's a quick shot of what I worked up one day, the concept is very rough, not to scale or anything.

This is a cat-back design and I was going to use all dynomax mufflers, this would include a dynomax x-flow 2.5-in muffler in the center, and the two canisters in the rear are dynomax 2.5in race bullets...some form of tips in the back:



This system obviously doesnt allow for an off-the-shelf y-pipe config, but I figured I would buy one and splice into it before the merge to save on some initial piping cost. I have even considered buying a used setup such as Injen or even the X02 to source the other piping and just make up the difference and splice in the different mufflers and such. Still not sure what route I will take and of course its always a gamble with how it all will sound when finally put on the car. I went with dynomax after I youtube'd numerous videos to compare similar cars with other mufflers such as magnaflow, borla, flowmaster etc and I seemed to like the dynomax sound a little better.

 

I appreciate the reply. I really want to stay as close to the existing design with two mid-mufflers and two rear mufflers. My main concern is that there is limited space to fit a decent sized muffler at the rear so I am sking for input from anyone that has already done it this way. Even if you have an off the shelf setup with dual rear mufflers I would appreciate a measurement of the overall length. I don't think it is necessary to pay $1k+ for a system. I have used magnaflow on ther cars and like the sound of them.

 

i thought stock had one center muffler and one rear muffler with two tips?

 

Magnaflow has variety type of mufflers and there is a muffler that will fit virtually any car. If ur question is: "Is there a magnflow muffler that will fit my coupe?" The answer is yes.

 

If I had to do it again, I'd copy Klubbs setup.

 

That is correct but if you go true dual then everything will be doubled (i.e. two mid mufflers and two rear mufflers)

 

What is Klubbs setup?

 

it would look something like this for the coupe
Black = X-pipe
light blue = 14" glasspacks
dark blue = magnaflow mufflers

 

the center muffler I used is a x-flow muffler, more cost effective I felt, similar to what Fast Intentions did...so instead of having to buy two center muffler and two rear mufflers I saved $130 on muffler cost.

 

average magnaflow muffler costs about $50-$60. How are u saving 130 by just getting one x-flow muffler. Also can u post pics of which x-flow muffler are you talking about for the coupe?

 

This is the setup I had in mind. I just need to know what size muffler will fit in the rear. For the coupe they will have to be slightly angled.

 

i went custom magnaflow for my coupe.

i think it sound great, almost like stock but louder. no drone.

went from midpipe back. with camaro type magnaflow muffler, and my stock tips.

 

My muffler cost in my config would be (2.5in, Summitracing.com):
2x Race bullet = $80
1x X-flow muffler = $133


Total, $213

Going with an alternative setup with traditional mufflers from dynomax:
2x Dynomax DNX oval canister 2.5 in single tip = $201.00
1x Dynomax race oval muffler, 3in/ dual 2.5 out = $93
or
2x dynomax race round muffler, 2.5in = $180

Total, $294 or $381

Now after looking at it I might change up my design a little bit. My first design had minimal mufflers for a true dual setup (i.e. the lonely dual in/out x-flow muffler), but it would cost more in piping cost probably since Im not terminating it into a traditional muffler setup, instead i would have pipe-tips common on most mustangs.

Now Im thinking, maybe I'll do a y-pipe back instead and go with that oval race muffler that has the single 3in inlet with the dual outlets and then terminate that into dynomax muffler with tips combo ($294). That would cut down on some piping cost because the y-pipe I could source off the shelf and then really only need piping for inbetween the rear mufflers and the new center one...i like that a little better. I'll draw that up another day though.

how much would that setup set you back?
and how loud are the magnaflow mufflers? do you have a sound clip?
