K&N Air Filter Install

Hey guys I just recieved my K&N air filter I thought it was going to be easy to Install, but i was having alot of problems. This is kind of sad that i'm asking this but i really don't want to damage anything by pulling on it hard. So basically I just need some help on how to install the filter how to take the old one out from the intake? Does it show you on the manual how to open it up? have to check on that

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

i would remove the air duct extension that is attached to the power duct (box) on the left.. it'll make it easier to open up the box and remove the filter... personally, i think this is less hassle than having to remove the entire box from the engine..

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

slight mpg improvement.. you'd have to do a before/after dyno to really be sure of the effects..

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

definately not worth it if your goign to buy another intake later on. But if you plan to stick with the stock intake then it is a must.

it's better than the stock... and virtually never has to be replaced..

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

I posted this about a month ago but here it is again FYI about installing:
Took me about 30 minutes and I removed the entire airbox for ease of installing the new filter. Basically:
1. Pry up the two push fasteners on the airbox extension that goes across the radiator area and set the extension aside.
2. Remove the 10mm airbox attach bolt on the far right side.
3. Remove the (4) gold colored 10mm screws that attach the airbox to the intake hose.
4. Carefully lift the airbox out. It will take a little force due to the two grommets on the bottom of the airbox.
5. Once out, you can easily replace the air filter ensuring the correct fit.
6. Reverse the removal instructions. Of particular note, when you're reinstalling the airbox, there's an approx. 1 1/2" plastic tube that goes into the bottom of the airbox. Make sure (by looking down into the airbox) that it goes in before forcing the airbox into the grommets on the bottom of the airbox.

Hope this helps

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

read something about it somewhere(may be freshalloy.com), some one use K&N on his car (not G35) and may have overoiled the filter, it ends up cost him $700 to replace the ruined fuel sensor. anybody heard about this kind of story?

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

The filter comes pre-oiled from the factory and in over a month of driving, I've experienced no problems. Just make a mental note of the approximate oil saturation it had when you got it so that when it comes time to clean and re-oil it (30-60K miles) you don't overdo it. No worries

Re: K&N Air Filter Install

Toyota will tell you not to use the K&N due to the oil. It will cover the sensor with oil and it will not be covered under the warr. Toyota can be hard nosed. Infiniti seems nicer about the filters-"We see them alot but we don't have any problem with them" Pleasanton Infiniti.
