is my engine ok?
please excuse my newbiness once again..but..
ever since i've installed my hks exhaust, i've been getting a weird smell from my engine bay. smells like somethings burning and a little electrical burnt smell. i would think that any smell related to a new exhaust install should come from the bottom of the car and not the engine bay..
also i've been listening to my engine and i can't tell if this is considered knocking/pinging? does my engine sound ok? that tick tick tick sound might be one of the pulleys, not sure either. please listen!
the video is really jerky but you can still hear it
i don't drive my car very much so i've been on the same tank of gas since March...i think that might make some difference if there's knocking/pinging. there's also still fuel stabilizer in the tank of gas i'm on right now.
i had an oil change about 1k miles ago, but that was a year ago, since i don't drive very much. i also have a md 5/16 spacer, k&n air filter, ztube, and hks exhaust. does the engine sound like something is wrong? please listen and tell me!
sorry i made another thread since no one seems to look there :/

Its normal for new exhaust systems to have a burn off smell to them.
As for the noise, its not knock or pinging. Its some other mechanical noise that is not all that uncommon for our cars.
If you want, take it to the dealership and ask them to listen to it. They may be able to tell you something more.

well sounds like to me just normal maintenance stuff to me. I couldnt really tell from the video, but if you gas that has been in there since march, you have old gas, which could never be good. and your oil is old as well.
even if you dont drive, you still have to change the oil after a certain time period, even if it just sits.
I would change your oil, full synthetic, and get a fresh tank of 93, and see if anything changes.

Knock sounds like most other G's. Check out this vid of my car at idle, you can hear a pretty fast paced knocking sound. Some have it more than others.

You really should start the car more then every few months. Have a parent, or friend (that you trust) to go start it and let it warm up, take it for an easy drive around the block.
If you know that the car is going to be sitting then get it past 1/4 tank of gas and put some stabilizer in it. When you get ready to drive again go fill it up with some fresh 93 (or 91, whichever in your area) and drive it around back to 1/4 before you let it sit for another few weeks.
Oil still breaks down over time, it will lose some of it's lubricating properties and even synthetic should still be changed after so many months (duh, and miles). If you put oil in a cup and let it sit for a year it would be thinner and have layers and be obviously different than fresh oil from an unopened bottle, once you saw it, you wouldn't just dump it in your car and say, "It's fine! It's never even been used!"... but it's not high enough quality anymore to be used in your car.
Just be sure to have someone warm it up to operating temps and then go out and take her through the gears, and see redline so keep all the parts lubed up and the engine contaimanent free!
