JWT Popcharger - Re-oiled *caution*
JWT Popcharger - Re-oiled *caution*
For those of you who live in Florida, or environments that have dust or pollen in the air please check your K&N air filters and JWT Popchargers.
About 3300 miles ago (which was about 3 months ago) I installed my first mod, the Z-Tube and JWT Popcharger. After 3 short months, my beautifuly oiled blue popcharger was dry and grey. After reading many posts that the Popcharger only needs to be re-oiled every 10,000 to 15,000 miles I was a little worried.
Yesterday I went to the auto parts store and bought the K&N "recharge kit". The kit was $9.98 and included the cleaning product and the oil. It did not include a cheap paint brush that the instructions recommended, but fortunately I had a spare one that I could use.
Still worried about the Pop charger losing the oil in such a short time I read the 11 steps (4 of which we can skip) on the proper way to clean and re-oil the filter. Step 11 was something that needs to be shared with everyone.
It states...

PERFORMANCE HINTS
Service every 50,000-100,000 miles on street driven applications. Service more often in off-road or heavy dust conditions or when air filter reaches 18" of restrictions. Let the dirt "build-up" work for you; it will not hurt the performance and actually help filter the air.
CAUTION
Extreme fine dust, agriculture or off-road use, will pull the oil from the element. Frequent re-oiling of the element's clean side might be required. Completely service when practical. For extra protection use K&N sealing grease on rubber ends of the element. Service only with K&N air filter cleaner and K&N air filter oil.

So, those of you who live in a state with pollen problems or those of you who live near road construction (dust, dirt problems) beware!!!
FYI, my popcharger was GREY and bone dry after a very bad pollen season, and a daily commute which takes me down about 5 miles of dusty, dirty roads which are under construction.

Re: JWT Popcharger - Re-oiled *caution*
I live in the south 'burbs of Chicago and they have been doing some very dirty construction in my area ever since I have had my G35. Anyway, I think that I try to clean the popcharger at least once every 1000 miles or a month. It depends on how many dust clouds I drive though. You got a good deal on your kit but it's also going to last you quite some time too. I have used mine at least 3-4 times and I haven't used much oil or cleaner either. But do make sure that you use enough to do the job thouroughly.
