Changing resonator = Decrease Back Pressure??

who really cares about how much back preasure is created or lost, the real difference is the sound it makes, duh!
does the resonator with the stock exhaust change the tone of the exhaust note, how so?

The answer to this question is yes, no and maybe. There is no ONE answer to this question. In general, altering a resonator will affect the overall power curve of an engine. I can't fully explain this because it would take me too long. For those who really want to understand why this is, research the terms "quarter wave tube" and "helmholtz resonator." These two theories are what exhaust system designs are based off of (at least the more sophisticated ones.)

In your case, removing the resonator likely has little to no affect on peak power. What likely did change is that it probably slightly lowered low end power and added a little mid range due to a shift in the resonant frequency of the pressure waves in the system.

Historically backpressure vs dyno measurements have show each 1.0 psi to be worth ~~ 2.0 HP.

Measure in front of what you want to change at 6,000 rpm [under roadload]and see how much is possible..............even a straight pipe will not drop to zero but you should be able to halve the backpressure with MAXIMAL noise.

Farting is velocity, holding it in is back pressure (well, stomach pressure, but it’s from being held back)...

So, I'm pretty sure that clears everything up.

* I just thought I'd post something stupid and not relevant but has same retarded metaphor - since I've been seeing it in other threads lately... I'm pretty sure it’s a requirement at least once a month on Driver.
