Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

When I bent the warped plenum torquing it down, isn't it now in a constant state of "trying to get back to warped"?

Doug told me that it is just sheet metal they use to fill in the gap. He said that flexes but the casting doesn't.

How worried should I be that the plenum (seemingly fine now) will "spring back" to it's warped state and crack trying?

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

Some question concern about ordering Crawford V5...
1. who do i look for to order this item?
2. What is the "Core Charge of $200" for? do i have to send them my stock plenum?
3. If this mod is installed...do i have to cut to plastic cover on the engine to make it fit? (i've seen some pic, but just wanna make sure that it fits without cutting stuffs...)

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

I know it's probably been asked before... but I searched "crawford plenum warranty" and could not come up with the answer I'm looking for.

Will installing crawford plenum void the factory warranty?

Is this what everyone depends on when installing aftermarket parts to their Gs?

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

Would it be safe to say that any "off-road only" application will void your warranty? The EPA would not back any off-road modification on a registered vehicle. Right??

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

It would be safe to say that pretty much any mod will void that part of your warranty. It sucks, but its part of it. Its ironic, but one of the big selling points on the G was the longer warranty. Now Ive already voided it after only 5000 miles. Oh well, youre only young once.

Subrobo-

1. www.crawfordz.com
2. yes, you have to send Doug your stock plenum, but he wont charge you the $200 if you promise to mail it ASAP.
3. No, the stock engine cover wont fit unless you trim it.

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

"Doug told me that it is just sheet metal they use to fill in the gap. He said that flexes but the casting doesn't. "

This is not true. My Crawford Plenum only has 2 bolts on the top of it. The stock plenum has 6 bolts. Without these extra bolts, the plenum breathes (like a set of lungs). The two sides "pop up" a little bit at about 145 mph in 5th gear. Don't ask how I know.

The more I learn about this Crawford Plenum, the more I wish they would just make a casting change to the stock plenum. BTW I own a Crawford V5 and have seen it "breathe" with my own 2 eyes.

By removing 4 bolts, the loading on the plenum has changed drastically. The pressure increasing inside of the plenum actually flexes the top 2 sides of the plenum. The Kinetix plenum has stiffening ribs cast into it which help to prevent this phenomenon, but the Kinetix sounds "bad" IMO.

Urrghh!!! Someone please make a new plenum (casting and all) for our cars!!!

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

New casting? I had always thought that it would be part of a model year change--the source of increased power for the 2006 model or something like that. That, combined with a slight cam change, would add some power and help sell the new models.
In the meantime, yes, let's see a new casting or super plastic plenum that does not add noise.

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

I finally have gotten my plenum installed yesterday. After telling co-workers about it (I installed it in the bay at work) it hit me that this device is after the MAF. Is it true that the ecu would not know that the engine is getting more air thus making the ordinarily rich mixture become lean. Would it become more lean or still remain on the rich side only slightly less. Would the o2 sensor on the exhaust measure hotter and adjust a/f and timing? What's really going on here? The engine screams at WOT I just hope it's not in pain.

Gurgen: if you found a way to silent your seatbelt anchor at WOT please PM me on what I have to do.

I had buzzing here from the day I got my car, and it multiplied when I added a Stillen intake. My dealer fixed the buzzing. They found that a couple of the mounting clips that hold the drivers door pillar plastic were missing from the factory, (which I found also to be the case on the right side of the car when I removed the pillar cover during video/stereo installation). Also, they stuffed some foam rubber underneath the seat belt sliding mount.

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

The first time I drove my sedan after the Stillen install, I
noticed a buzzing sound coming from around my left ear.
It only happens at full or close to full throttle. Never heard
it before the Stillen HiFlow AirBox. I guess this is normal?
It drives me nuts and I hate it. Any way I can get rid of it?

Please re-read my post. I had this same problem, and my dealer fixed it completely, (even after I was honest and told them it was my Stillen intake that set off the buzzing....three cheers to Pepe Infiniti in White Plains NY). They added the missing pillar clips, and installed some foam rubber under the seatbelt mounting slider. One other thing to check is if some of the factory trim clips did not come with the little foam ring around them...seems like nothing, but attention to detail can solve this issue.

Re: Crawford Plenum Problem

How did this thread go from a problem with a plenum to a problem with an intake. Shouldn't a new thread have been started? There might be a few people w/ this intake problem and it's possible that only 5% of them would read a post about plenum problems...

Sorry about the Hijack! When I saw reference to the only thing
I don't like about the Stillen, I had to jump in. I was hesitant
to bring this up with Infiniti, but I think I will have them look
into fixing as RacerX indicates.
