** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

There's a group buy in session at My350z.com here for the Kinetix Intake Plenum.
$350 + $12 shipping. NO TAX ... even if you're in California (not sure how they're doing this).

Compare to normal price of $399 + shipping + tax (CA ppl) ...
looks like a decent deal to me. I may have to get on board for this one

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

the kinetix plenum is definitely cheaper than the crawford plenum, but i've heard too many stories of cracking and other problems related to it.. i'm semi-inclined to join this group buy, but also hesitant at the same time..

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

Apparently, the current version (v3) has been reinforced and therefore is much more durable then its predecessors.
However, IMO I don't think its been on the market long enough to determine its true longevity.

Quite honestly, I am hesitant as well, as I have read quite a few "my Kinetix Plenum has cracked" stories. However, I am participating for the following reasons -

1) Claim of reinforced plenum
2) Price
3) Kinetix Customer Support - supposedly their customer service is exceptional. Apparently, should your plenum crack they will replace it.

I'm waiting until they make one without the zcar front strut dip.

Also, rumours are still strong the '05 makes 300.

What did they do?

I thought it had a lifetime warranty, but I may be wrong. It's worth checking into this issue though.

I have the Kinetix plenum and I'm very satisfied with it.

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

DED,

Since both plenum's deliver the same hp/tq I'd say the Kinetix is starting to peak my interest. I saw it at the dyno day and it did not "flex" like a set of lungs (like the Crawford did). It had stiffening members cast into it (good design IMO) and lookes pretty good to boot.

For $350 and the fact that you get to keep your core I'd be all over this if I didn't have the Crawford. Kinetix is really supporting their products and if you follow the 60 in-oz max torque callout, there is NO WAY you'll ever crack the new V3 with steel inserts.

People should be jumping all over this deal!!!

301-bhp!!! ...and growing!

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

Somebody in this thread help me to make up my mind please. I am in the waiting list for the Crawford plenum but it will take 4-5 weeks for me to get it. That is one down for Crawford. The other is the warping that takes place because of the heat cause by the welding I guess. On the other hand, I have heard that kinetix plenum sound is horrible, like there is some gurgling going on. Second, how can they achieve the same performance like the Crawford if they have that indentation in the from for the 350Z strut bar. Isn't that the whole idea behind the Crawford plenum, to make the plenum even in the front so the front cylinders get as much air as those in the back??

I may jump on this. The Crawford also has issues such as warping/poor tolerance, core exchange, asthetics. I would really like to hear a sound clip of what people say is horrible noise coming from the Kinetix...for me that is what's holding me back.

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

The mods might edit this out but here's a link to an independent dyno done with both the kinetix and the crawford. Kinetix showed a little more power but it's well within the margin of error. http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthre...t&pagenumber=1

The dip for the strut bar on the outside makes just a very small indentation on the inside of the plenum.

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

if there is a lot of noise, it may be an indication of the air tumbling within the plenum. This is not good. unless the noise is due to the different material. anyone know or can find out for sure?

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

I'm considering the plenum upgrade but now reading the other post in this section ( crawford plenum post ), I'm not sure. I have the Z tube and pop charger and with the plenum change some are having to go back to the stock airbox due to poor running/hp problems with the combo ? I'd like both to work together to maximize the hp increase of the two mods, does anyone have these two mods done and have them working together ? With some positive input on the noise issue and the intake issue I'll sign up on the group buy.

Re: ** GROUP BUY ** Kinetix Intake Plenum

I got in on this group buy - what I have always been really interested in was the first aluminum intake plenum that Kinetix had prototyped as their "F/I" plenum... hopefully I will get my use out of this one and when the aluminum one comes to market I will be able to "trade-up" or just sell this plenum outright for the new one... anyways, I have no qualms about the quality of this latest version and I have always favored this option over the Crawford because of the plastic keeping the underhood temps down (cooler air = more power)... regardless, I'm very excited about my mod for the month of June! (my car's on a one-mod-a-month diet)
