Just installed Megan high flow cats and Y pipe...
It was off an 05 350z that went twin so we had it laying around the shop. I kept the stock muffler, used a stock Z midpipe with resonator and extended the Y pipe to meet the cat flanges.
I HATE the resonating sound at and above around 2200 rpms. Does using the stock muffler cause this or is keeping the factory cats the way to go?
I know the Z didn't sound like this but the muffler was of course designed differently.
Any help would be appreciated.
BTW, my SES light came on too which I expected.

The resonating you're getting is coming from both the y-pipe and Z midpipe. The main culprit is the y-pipe. For whatever reason, aftermarket y-pipes cause a decent amount of rasp and drone.
I changed out the rear muffler with a Magnaflow 3" in / (2) 2.25 out and it sounds great!
Reguarding the SES light, I did replace the factory cats with high flows (which are just little resonators) so the rear O2's are going to throw a code but I can live with it for now.

Can you provide more details on your Magnaflow solution?
I have AAM HFCs with an otherwise stock exhaust. I'm at 60,000 miles and my rear muffler just failed.
I'm looking for a good and preferably inexpensive solution. I don't really like the idea of $300 for an OEM replacement, nor $400 for the very nice HKS. If you found the Magnaflow worked well, I'd love to know the part number or how you ordered it up and fitted it. Did you buy tips with it and have it welded up with the hardware from your original oem? Do you have a photo?

I work at CIN Motorsports. Check out our website at www.cinmotorsports.com and there is a link to mapquest that will take you there. (It's off I77 at exit 6A) Call me before you come because I am in and out. 704-200-7709 ask for Ben
I bought my Magnaflow at Pep Boys. I think retail price is about $90 with two $10 tips. Since I work at a shop, it was no problem to make a pipe from the mid pipe to the new muffler.
Cool. Anybody you'd recommend to weld it up in Raleigh? Maybe I should come down to Charlotte.

I don't know anyone up there but we could take care of it for $220 including parts.
Come see us anyways for no other reason but just to hang out especially on Saturday's.

That sounds pretty good... I've been meaning to come visit you folks anyway... I keep fantasizing about an STS, not that I'm really going boost anytime soon.
Do Pep Boys stock the part? Could I pretty much come in on a Saturday and get the part and the work done? Best to book it earlier in the week?
By the way, I have a bit of a knock in my front suspension that I can't locate the source of. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the shock. Have you ever run into Tokico or any other shocks developing a knock? If, when driving, I turn left then right, it knocks, as the right suspension decompresses after compressing. If I lift the car by the right fender by hand with it on the ground it makes the noise at the top of the movement upon recompression, but with the wheel off I can't recreate it. With the lower arm on a jack it won't do it, only when on the wheel. Initially it was a sharper knock, now its getting duller and less noticeable but it is not going away. I've been living with it a couple thousand miles now.
Listening really closely and having someone rock the car to make it knock it has been impossible to discern where the sound is coming from, other than from the right front suspension. I've closely inspected all components and attachments, particularly spring seating (which I readjusted a couple times), control arms, and ball joints, as well as the strut brace and an engine dampener located nearby. Everything looks good.
I've been meaning to post on this subject to see if anyone else has had this happen, but haven't gotten around to it before now.
Any ideas?
