Intake & Exhaust Questions and info regarding various aftermatket exhaust systems for the G35 (Headers,Y-Pipes, and Cat-Back Systems)

Header Install

Ok folks, looking for some advice/recommendations here. Going to install some headers from a 08 350Z. After doing some research, I know its a PITA. I have use of a lift and all the needed tools. I'm looking for some recommendations to make the job a little easier. Additionally, I'll be replacing the entire exhaust system: 08 350z headers, 07/08 350z OEM CATS or Stillen HFC's, 07 350z HR Y-pipe, and a stillen single pathway catback exhaust. I have everything except the CATS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with the install. Good thing you have access to a lift for all the undercarriage work. Not sure it'll help you with the work you need to do under the hood.

What I meant was to pay someone to do it.

Have done a few headers swaps on American Cars. I'm quickly figuring out that nothing is easy to install on the G35. Need to go to some of the car meets in SD and talk to local G35 owners.

I'm in Poway. I've done a number of header swaps on American (Vettes, Mustangs, Camaros, etc.) and import cars as well. I can just tell that it'll be a PITA on the G.

Agree with Candian...may be worth it to pay someone who can bat it out in four hours.

yea i seems everyone that does it on their own ends up working on them for 8+ hours....its better to pay someone to do it

I'll have to talk to some of the local G35 owners. I like to do most of the work myself. If I can find a reputable shop thats not to expensive, i might let'em do it.

For the labor involved vs the gain in hp, it's not worth it unless you are pulling the motor for another reason.

They're OEM headers. Tons of money went into the R&D. They'll fit like stock and look like stock. They use heat shields to keep engine bay temps down. They use very thick tubing which keeps the heat in the pipes, maintains exhaust velocity, and reduces engine bay temps.

I'll eventually be doing the same mod.

I think this simple write is pretty good. Since we don't have this front K-bar, install shouldn't be that hard. I'm going to get up underneath the car one of these days and get a plan of attack. One of the hardest things will be be to break loose those manifold to cat bolts that have been on there for 6 years and 6 Midwest winters. I'll definitely buy impact swivel sockets for that part.
