Deleted pre-muffler and put on tint yesterday

So i had my classes cancelled yesterday so I did some needed mods. First i went to the tint shop and had 20% (one step lighter than limo) all the way around. I have to say that it really completes the car. Furthermore, it should help protect the leather from the sun. The guys doing the tint were really professional. They even removed the rear third brakelight to ensure that the tint was applied properly (of course they reinstalled it when they were done.

Next, I headed over to the muffler shop. Since i'm waiting for the NISMO exhaust, i wanted to do something in the meanwhile. I got the pre-muffler removed for 30 bucks and it sounds great!!! I think I even notice a seat of the pant improvement in throttle reponse!!! So now, my car is sitting in the garage of our building waiting for me to get off work. I cant wait to take the long way home!!!

Hey a few more ponies -- that's good. Is it a little louder too?

gsedanman -

It sounds a whole lot better also. However, it sounds a bit tinny when the exhaust is cold. But as soon as it warms up, that sound goes away and its just the same as the sotck exhaust except more depth of tone and volume throughout the rpm range.

would you mind defining "more"

i was thinking about doing it, but I heard a G without the pre-muffler and it sounded kinda wimpy (i.e., not as loud).

99 -

Its definately louder throughout the rpm range. The exhaust note (tone) is not changed, it just sounds louder. The more i drive it, the more i like it.

Re: Deleted pre-muffler and put on tint yesterday

I deleted the pre-muffler, aka "resonator", yesterday too. Cheap mod for only $30 bucks. Very happy with the sound. I haven't had any of the tinny sound, even when cold, some people noticed. Just take the regular exhaust note and bump it up about 5 db or so. If you drive easy, it is still quiet, but if you get on it, now you can really hear the exhaust. Not sure if there was an hp gain, since I didn't dyno before, but it feels to me like the engine spins up a little freer (maybe less backpressure?) and revs a little easier, which makes it seem stronger because you get into the meat of powerband quicker.

That's what I wann know. Did it involve cutting the pipe and welding another in it's place or was it a simple bolt on removal?

cut it out with a sawzall in about 30 seconds. Take an appropriate piece (diameter and length) of straight pipe and weld it in its place - check for leaks - and voila, you are done. Whole process took about 15 minutes or so. Looking at it you wouldn't even know it wasn't stock that way.
