Hmm heat sheilds are that important? your cats has heatsheilds now your test pipes are just bare, wouldn't that cause problems then?

I didn't read this whole thread, but the "mesh *****" that you called them are not heat shields, if that is what you're saying. It sounds to me like you are. They are flex joints for the exhaust to have some movement. Otherwise the exhaust/test pipes could crack.

1. this is a normal problem when installing test pipes
2. that sound is the "metal *****" also know as flex joints that is where the sound is coming from. it is one of those things that comes with test pipes along with the smell and the rasp.also it is not the heat sheild at all, i have a jic y-pipe and my car makes the sasme exact noise and that is because of the flex pipes.
i would recommend keeping the metal ***** because when you engine moves the flex joints save your shinny piping from being cracked. it is there to absorb the energy that the the engine creates, if that is gone the that energy goes directly to the weak spots in your exhaust setup and then you will have a crack. this is just my two sense not a forum mechanic or anything like that just my opinion.

I've had the same problem and found out that it is the flex pipe that's making the noise. Can't handle the freed up pressure I guess.
