6MT RevUp Intake Sound

Hey Guys,

I've had my '06 Sedan for over a month now and have been searching for intake info. I have a 6MT and therefore a RevUp motor, and am thinking about a Z-tube and a Stillen Box because of CARB Krap here in CA.

After searching old threads, I removed the 'power duct' and the 'radiator snorkel' to see what intake mods might sound like. I hardly noticed any change at all! A bit more throaty on the top end but not enough to come close to peeing my pants. I guess the 05-06 doesn't react the same way as the 03-04 models? I used to have a '96 Maxima where it was unbelievably LOUD (too much) when the airbox was opened up.

I also currently have an Amsoil EaA drop in panel filter, and will use an Amsoil, aFe, or AEM filter if I go with a box that needs a cone filter.

So anyway, would a Z-tube and Stillen box with a cone filter be that much different than what I tried today? Can a cone filter be fitted into the stock RevUp Box and get what I want? I know there's very little HP gains; I'm looking for meaner sounds. -- Thanks!

If you want the louder intake sound go with a popcharger. The stillen is stock-like so you won't get that much louder of a sound

Thanks for the input. I think I sorta simulated a stillen with my mod except for no cone filter. I'd like to keep that format for CARB reasons but sounds like there won't be enough of a difference to matter.

Does the stillen include a velocity stack like the pop? Might have to try a pop charger anyway.

I just recently installed the stillen intake + stillen Tube on my 06 G Sedan 6MT. It doesn't sound much different than stock but when you get on it you can def. hear a difference. I know what you mean when you say you put an intake on your 96 maxima and it was a big difference in noise...it's not as much on the G but you will notice it.

YES the stillen comes with the velocity Stack and the nice thing about the heatshield for the Stillen is that it bolts right up to the stock power duct + snorkel for the clean oem look.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate the info.

I guess I'll just try some things out and see where it takes me.

Plenum spacer and z-tube will make a much more aggresive sound

I like the whistle of the JWT pop charger. I have mine in a STILLEN airbox. The JWT has a better design.

I also have my intake covered with Heat Tape to prevent heat soak.

Excellent idea. Sounds like it could be a nice franken-box!
