o yeah... and my concern was that i didnt want to go buy a huge jack, nor did i want to mess up an o2 sensor or something on my car... so i was going to leave the install (and uninstall when i sell) to professionals.

Re: New performance cats or stripped out stock?!

I'm not comfortable going with test pipes so I think if I make any change it will have to be high flow cats. I've heard a lot of bad things about RandomTechnology cats with the collapsing and all so that leaves me with either the Kinitex or Crawford cats. Anyone have opinions on those two options? Are they even worth the trouble?

Anything you wanna share that I should be aware about test pipe's LOL? Besides being illegal and loud I dont think there's anythign wrong with them haha, i just think there are better gains with straight flowing pipes than cat's rite?

i finally got my kinetix cats on! performance wise im pretty much satisfied. as for the sound, it made my borla exhaust louder at low rpms and a lot louder at high rpms. it pretty much just bolted on. took only 1 hour. the muffler guy didnt mess up my oxygen sensor. thank GOD! i told him to becareful. remember to tell your mechanic that.i will post a sound clip soon. time to go get the technosquare ECU.

Re: New performance cats or stripped out stock?!

Sinurgy,
I'm super happy with the Crawford cats. I did have to bend the heat shield on the cat itself on the drivers side a little bit to avoid rattle. Every car is different. I love Crawford Z because Doug is ALWAYS available to chat with and is extremely experienced and knowledgeable. When I had trouble with one of the cats he fixed it free of charge (If you can drive to Nashville).

The kinetix is slightly less flow and I assume may have some fitament issues just like I've heard about ANY aftermarket cat. I've heard heat shield bending and washer adding for solutions and some never have a problem with fitament. We''re dealing in centimeters here so it just depends on your individual ride.

Problem with Kinetix is the reports of poor customer service but the cat is a quality product.

Re: New performance cats or stripped out stock?!

ive decided to go with crawford cats instead of the other options. I will probably just order a pair when i get my plenum. I was watching an inspection the other day at a local shell station while i was getting my oil changed in my suburban, and i talked to the guy doing it fora while. I asked him if a car would pass without cat's just running straight pipes and he said no. I could see that they didnt have the car on a lift or anything, so i asked how he would know. He had the little tube in the tailpipe of this car he was doing testing for emmisions and said that if the car wasnt running cats "the computer would tell him". I'm guessing this means that he didnt think that it would pass emissions or whatever...... what about u guys? have u passed emmisions with high flowing cats/ straight pipes. I know that all id have to be able to get past was the emissions computer thing..... they wouldnt physically look down under my car.

Re: New performance cats or stripped out stock?!

You are legally responsible for having the car oem at time of resale. If you sell a car with tampered cats* the new owner can sue you and force you to pay to return to oem standards.
Even years after the fact when discovered.
AS IS doesn't protect you with Emissions.

* Changing to non oem cats is tampering even if it passes emission test because oem are now required to warrranty cats.
The act of not having the dealership warranty cats [prior to 70k] and you paying for replacements is PROOF of tampering.

Just something to think about before you tamper with oem cats.

Dealers can't sell the car so they won't take it as a trade in!
