I do install for some locals when they can't do it themselves.
I put together DIY events at my house 3x a year.
I do most of my own work.

you can search my history and see most of my work

A 5/16 Spacer job isn't hard at all. Should take no more than 2 hours tops for someone who knows what they're doing and talking/ bsing the whole way through.

If they're focused, I'd say an hour or so

For me, it was my first time and took me a lil longer in a cold @zz garage! I got er done though and even went ahead and installed my zTube and K&N filter the same evening and reset the ECU.

Afterwards, it was a niiice experience testing my car on the highway near my house.

Don't get discouraged.

that ping noise can just be a slight detonation due to unmetered air entering to combustion chamber. Esentially a vaccum leak...

DJ, you said they took you back to stock. Did that include replacing the Aramid gasket you installed below the lower plenum? If so, did they give it back to you? If not, you're missing an important part of the Motordyne kit. That gasket helps with heatsoak. If you're not sure, check the receipt/invoice you got from the dealer and see what gaskets are listed. If it's gone, see if Hydrazine can get you a new one.

If you broke one of the lower plenum bolts, it didn't come in the kit. It's one of the stock ones. Again, check your receipt to see if the dealer replaced it. If not, PM Tony or Rick at Riverside and see if they can get you a single bolt. You may have to buy a set, but it's important you have all of them.

I can send you one. Its a 70mm metric M6 bolt with 1mm thread pitch.

In fact, you can steal one of the long bolts from the 5/16" spacer kit and use it on your lower plenum. This will allow you to put it all together with the exception of the long bolt at the goosneck of the plenum.

When you get the replacement 70mm bolt, you can easily put it back in.

Tony

I didn't compare the bolts when I did my install, but I thought they were the same. Can you get him just an Aramid gasket if they screwed him over on it (threw it away)?

i did NOT install (no atittude or anything, just making it easier to understand lol) ANYTHING from the motordyne kit, i pretty much opened up the plenums, shat bricks, realized i had a foot-pound not inch pound wrench that went too high to convert, so i just retightened everything by hand/eye, snapped a bolt in the "gold part" on the inside of the plenum (which caused the pinging sound, not a vacuum problem) and thats it. whatever they replaced, was stock, nothing from the kit was ever install, everything is still in the bag in my trunk, THAT THEY WENT THRU like the jackasses they are.

edit: and glex i will definatly be pming you somtime in the near future, probably a wensday for a saturday install or somthing in the upcoming week or 2 weeks. thanks

Oh, OK. Damn, in that case I wouldn't have mentioned anything to the dealer about an install and just told them about the noise. They'd have fixed it for free under warranty and you never would have had your warranty voided. I know, hindsight's 20/20. Well, what's done is done. Hopefully you and Glex can get the spacer installed.

HA! i did, i jsut made the app under "i herd a pinging noise", they said ok well fix it. they called me the same day, this car isnt stock, we will not work on it until it is stock, and until it is stock, you will have no warenty. i said well i didnt do anything to the car, they said its impossible, now mind u i only have a ztube installed while its in theier and not 1 motordyne piece touched my car. so yeah they charged me for that. i told them nothing aboutmy install / brain fart

edit. thats why no1 should ever ever ever ever go to fette infiniti of clifton nj. they suck

Remember dealer shops are independent repair shops with a reimbursement contract with Nissan, nothing more.
As long as Nissan pays [you have what you call a warranty], when Nissan doesn't pay your warranty is over.

Your car has a permanent record and dealers can warn other dealers if you **** them off enough.

Up to you to deal with Nissan which is where your warranty is.

This is mostly true, but a dealer can't make arbitrary decisions that hurt the Infiniti name without consequences. Infiniti can refuse to sell them any more cars. That will straighten up a dealership in no time.

And most importantly in this case, the dealership had no legal right to cancel the warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Act requires that they prove a modification caused the issue being covered, which they certainly did not do, and wouldn't be able to do since a Z-Tube is stock on this exact same engine in a 350Z.

If/when I ever have to go to the dealer for a warranty repair, I'm bringing a copy with me and telling them about it beforehand. I guarantee they won't be cancelling my warranty.
