Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

I need some help chosing an exhaust system for my 6MT Sedan. All I care about is how it sounds. I would love an exhaust that sounds almost like the stock at 1000 - 2000 rpm, but sound really agressive above 3000. I'm not really willing to spend too much either, probably close to $500 - $800 for the parts. I'd also don't want an exhaust that has a constant drone at idle. Any suggestions? Also does the Z-tube also make the car sound more agreesive at high rpms? How about a combination of both? thanks a million!

your best bet is to hit a local G35driver meet and hear the diff exhausts for yourself.

Yes Z tube adds a little more agressive note after about 5K RPM. No changes down low.

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

I have the Stillen catback and intake and it adds penetrating sound at WOT, and it also adds sound to every range of RPM but idle. It's a little on the loud side but it's definitly not like a nasty little civic with coffe cans. Attached is the before and after Dyno as provided by Stillen. The plots indicate ~22 HP gain. These plots were emailed to me by stillen before I made the purchase and it is the reason I purchased the catbacks.

I have the NFC Y-Pipe with the HKS Muffler. I kept the stock resonator in. With this combo at idle you cannot tell a differance at all. There is no drone at all whatsoever. Daily driving you can barely tell a differance. My granny rode in the car a couple days after I put it on and she didnt believe I had done it until she looked at the different tail pipe. Once you get up around 4K rpm it sounds beautiful. In the week I have had it I have gotten many compliments. It is very tasteful. You come out about the price of a Borla about the Same price, performance, and better sound for types like us.

NFC MotorSports $295

HKS Muffler $375

Blueprint,

You're pushing me over the edge man!
I've been looking at the HKS muffler for several weeks now (have gathered up 15 pics from all the different posts). Still not sold on the Y-pipe though ($300 is making it a tough sell).

Chance of any sound clips? .....might completely push me over then!

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

There's also a few members who have gone HKS + Coupe Midpipe and have commented that it sounded awful.

Just save the time and money and get the Borla. If you want maximum performance get the Stillen, it sounds nice but it's a tad loud.

I will buy the Stillen or Borla depending on how I feel the day I purchase it. I think I'll get the Stillen and add a resonator somewhere inline.

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

Can you point me to some of those posts where people have commented that they don't like the HKS?

I've done pretty exhaustive search here and on FA and have not seen any negative comments on the HKS unit.

Hydrazine, is that low-end torque plot for real? Can you comment on whether you feel that much torque under 3500 RPM?

For 650$ I would have gone with Fujitsubo Legalis-R, but its canister looks and sounds a bit on the ricier side IMO. I wonder if you can get Fuji mid section and connect to HKS at the end. Flanges seem to have simillar location. Any1 knows if you can buy Fuji mid section separately ?

Disregard the plot results below 3500 rpm. It looks like they didn't step on the gas untill 3300 rpm.
I can't be sure that there is a net positive performance difference but it sure feels/sounds like there is.... My ridepool buddy likes it too.

I also want to know the same thing, is that dyno for real, there's no way you could ahve that ridculous of a gain down low. I concur, it's almost as if they floored it after 3k.
