Intake for '06 Coupe 6MT

Hi All,

I've been researching and would like to receive your input.

I've been reading nothing but good things about the MREV2 + 5/16ths spacer and plan on making these additions to my coupe.

I've been debating as to which intake would best suit this combination: The z-tube/k&n drop in filter combo or the stillen hi flow intake w/z-tube.

I've heard that the stock '06 airbox coupled with the z-tube/k&n drop filter has produced some of the best dyno results. What then would justify the exta $100+ for the stillen setup?

Thanks and I look forward to suggestions!

Keep your stock airbox and get z-tube/ K & N drop in filter. save that $200 and put it towards the MREV2 + 5/16ths spacer

Though running stock airbox, z-tube with K&N drop in filter will net you better dyno gains. But it's noticable again that you will feel when you drive. You might as well put a z-tube and jwtpopcharger. And save up for mrev2 plus 5/16th spacer, that's what im saving up for.

Great for noise thats about it no power gains and the heat soak is horrible the stillen has a much better heat shield

+1, this is the best setup with MREV2 & 5/16 spacer and it will cost you the least.
Definetly best bang for your buck.

As a proud owner of a 06' 6mt coupe, I highly recommend motordyne's MREV2+5/16 spacer and z-tube.

The stock air box that is already equipped with the 06' 6mt models, works pretty good. I would leave it alone. I still use paper air filter for personal taste only. As long it is clean(or replaced on time, maybe early than normal), your safe. Guaranteed no clogged air-flow sensor problems.

With these items, you can't go wrong. Sure, there are better things out there when dealing with mild breather mods for your 06 6mt, but it is a personal taste stand-point, but guaranteed satisfaction.

That is good you've been reading past and present postings about what your actually looking for. I do hope this and other postings have helped you decide: "What do you want to do to compliment your 06' 6mt???"

Good to hear that this setup works well...even with a normal paper filter which is what I was considering doing as well.

As cash is a bit tight, i thought I'd start with these consensus best bang-for-your-buck upgrades. Later is anybody's guess... I'm hoping to put a Stillen catback exhaust as the next step

I just about lost my mind searching for the "best intake" when I was trying to make that decision. It seems every solution out there has one (or more) of the following drawbacks:
1. expensive
2. loss of power due to heat soak and no separation between filter and engine bay
3. no "aggressive sound" from the intake

I ended up going to a local shop and asking their opinion- they built an intake for me using the OEM airbox. Basically we added a polished metal pipe with rubber hoses and clamps to replace the "g-tube", they improved the airbox by making some modifications to pull in more cold air and keep engine bay air out. Then the modifications they made to the airbox allowed me to run a 6" K&N cone filter. I can honestly say none of the drawbacks above applied to my setup and I love it!

You got pics of that? I find it difficult to believe you got a 6" dia cone filter in there but pics are worth a 1,000 words.

I ran the Stillen Intake with stillen Z tube for 3 or 4 years and I would say other than sounding cool it did absolutely nothing for the car (maybe 1-2 more HP). K&N drop in and z tube is most likely a better route...but do not expect to see big gains regardless of which way you go. You will prob get more bang for your buck with the MD spacer and MREV.

Go stock with K&N, save your money for the spacer and mrev. People have gain 20whp and 20lbs of torque with that combo. If you want some noise later down the road then get the intake.
