Installed Pop Charger do i need the heat shield?

i wanna get rid of the heat shield so i wont need the front air box thats connected to it since it looks tacky, but i was wondering if it is needed for more air induction or it wont even matter whether its there or not? OR keep the heat shield there but not needing the air box

I'm pretty sure the heatshield doesn't do much, but every bit counts.. without the heat shield you're definitely gonna have some heat soak and lose horsepower over the stock intake box

Without that heat shield you lose at least 15HP across the board.

And you lose significant fuel efficiency too.

What box are you talking about? Most pop chargers replace the stock box and have a heat shield that fits between the motor and the filter. However the filter is mostly open to the engine bay.

I think he's talking about the rectangular plastic vent type piece that mounts right behind the grille

Makes sense, I've heard that referred to on here as a 'power duct' as well.

the rectangular air duct in front of the engine cover.

this is my pic btw, the reason i dont want that air duct crap whatever you call is cause its literally touching the CF engine cover, theres no space between it.

I wouldn't take it off. It funnels air from outside into the pop feeding it colder air than is circulating in the engine bay. IMHO with the pop you need as much cooler air as you can get!

If you want that piece off, you should go with CAI route, not Pop Charger.

Each 11F increase in intake air temp reduces engine power by 1% due to decrease in density.

Read the integrated within MAF air temp sensor or tape a remoye sensor to the cone you will be very disappointed in what you find especially at in traffic idle and under 80 mph when hot underhood air leaks into cone with a shield or not. ESPECIALLY compared to oem system design.

At speed the underhood cools some but never get near outside in front of vehicle!!

Say 92F at 75 MPH ambient and oem system shows 108F after filter element
A cone will add 25-45F to intake temp that a 2>4% reduction in engine power compared to oem system. Even with a 1% cone reduction is filter restriction you will still be 1%-3% down on power due to heat.

Now in winter or cold temperatures the loss may not be a great...........only way to know for sure is to measure!
