How to mod exhaust but keep stock sound?
Well, I've had my coupe for all of 3 days, and the mod bug has already taken hold of me. I have the Z-tube and PopCharger waiting in my garage till my break in is over.... now i'm thinking about the exhaust side of the equation to balance it out.
Thing is... I just love the sound of the stock exhaust. it's not too loud (still live home, and my folks don't appreciate the growl of an angry VQ35 like I do) but it still shows that the coupe means business.
Lots of people on this forum have all different exhausts, with and without high flow cats. I would definitely like to do the cats, as this seems to be a bottleneck in the exhaust system. I have heard about the problems with the RT cats... can anybody comment on the other brands?
I had been thinking about the Borla exhaust for a while, but am now considering the Stillen and Fujitsubo as well. The Borla seems to be a better choice for F/I applications. The Stillen, although it sounds nice and seems well put together, is damn expensive.
I would appreciate any insights you guys (or gals) have on the matter.

you can get a fujitsubo (or imitation) Y-pipe.. it'll leave the stock exhaust on, but it'll give you some minimal gains and change the tone slightly..

I'm installing a Z tube and Popcharger this week... so that'll probably help. I was also thinking about Crawford or Kinetix cats (both cats are made by Carsound/Magnaflow i believe anyways). After that, i figure i'll see how it sounds and decide if i want to mod more

Well i installed the Z-tube last night and did the Popcharger earlier this evening, and i gotta say, they do give the car a more agressive tone... so far i like it.... i only "let it rip" one time on the way home just to get an idea of the WOT sound (only 700 miles, don't wanna hurt my VQ).
for the ~200 bucks that the Z-tube/Popcharger combo costs, it was money well spent to me, even if it was more of an auditory gain than a rwhp one.

I was wrong about that one... Carsound/Magnaflow makes both the Kinetix cats and the Ultimate Racing cats, not the Crawford.
Anbody have crawford cats and wanna weigh in on how they affect the stock exhaust note?
