Headers and Test Pipes install

Ok, so I'm ordering aftermarket headers and test pipes. As for the install they comes with all the bolts and gaskets, but I'm a little confused as to exactly where the test pipes go. They replace the stock cats completely and attach to the y pipe correct? (and to the headers as well on the "in" side). I just want to make sure that the test pipes will go from my headers to my y pipe and I can get rid of my cats completely. (i have an 04 G35 Sedan 5AT)

ok so yah the test piepes will go directly to my y pipes. as i thought. I have a friend who has a pipe-bending machine and he said he could make me custom straight pipes all the way through from the back of the y-pipe. Would it be too loud? LOLLLLL, i'm guessin a huge yes.

Yea it'l be loud.

with headers, testpipes and straight pipes you're gonna rasp quite a bit, as well as be super loud. lol

with an auto all i'd care about is low/mid range punch and you're losing a bit of power i'd think.

A header install is very difficult on the VQ. I suggest you take it to a shop. But be prepared to dish out $$$ for that kind of labor.

I have a friend who works in an auto shop and he said he can do it for me. all I have to do is pay him 100 bucks or so. How is it possible to lose low end power by adding a completely hi-flow exhaust system?? I dont understand how the stock system with 3 way cats and **** headers and 2 mufflers would ever produce more power no matter what rpm range....???

back pressure is a bad thing. Its more about scavenging. If the exhaust tapered all the way out from the headers to the end of the car it wouldn't hurt performance at all.

out of the heads is 1.75"...if it tapered to 2.25" and slow expands the rest of the way to 3.5" you'd have a perfect setup. This is what Motordyne has done with their exhaust systems and why they outperform others. The test pipes they are coming out with are supposed to do just this...taper from 2.25-2.5" I believe. They xyz goes from 2.5-3. and the y-back systems go from 3-3.5 or a dual setup with similar flow.

He didn't give too much details, but that was the ID he gave me. I am confused and really interested at the same time. He did say it will be VERY different, which it sounds like it. It's exciting to say the least.

Unless it’s to an entirely different engine… I cant imagine what a 4” ID test pipe is going to bolt up to… even fabricating headers off OEM exhaust manifold to a 4” ID couldn’t possibly make sense… unless he’s trying to see how far “far” can go (as in what people will fall for, and I don’t think Tony is like that)… are you sure you understood his concept properly? You stated 4” ID test pipes ~…

He does have a more intricate concept (that he considers simple)… maybe that’s what you are referring to? (not released)…

BTW – Tony’s idea of simple is: a = F_ex / m (but he figured out how to do it on Mars!)… I suspect he’s working on a Nichrome Tungsten version with thermal characteristics that will be suitable for drag racing on Venus – possible Mercury! When he conquers the sun you’ll know it – our heads will explode (but his Z will travel faster than the brain matter splatter!)

We've talked on several occasions about more detailed subject and we've never BSed with one another, so I don't see why he would start now. He knows I've been waiting for the TP for god knows how long and I've been bugging him since early march about them. I really can't as well imagine how a 4" ID will look like, that is just huge...

But I do hope that his TP will reduce some droning in my car, which he said will magically do I really can't wait.

You are completely right, Tony is on a different level when it comes to details and for that we are grateful to have him developing products for us.

OK well i have headers that are in 1.75", out 2.25", then i have test pipes in 2.25" and out 2.5", then I have a y pipe, in 2.5" out 3", if i go from the back of the y pipe to out and taper it to be a 3" in and a 3.5" out that'd be good? like 3.5" at the rear muffler end?
