HFC install tips
Hi, i sorta would like some info on installing my new HFCS
i got the Random Tech HFCs and they use the bracket that the oem cats use,
can i reuse those nuts and bolts? i'd prefer to get new ones if possible at an auto store.
also how many studs come off the headers? from what i see, there are 3 bolts holding the cats and the headers together on each side. and only one of the studs come off the header.
the reason i ask, is i want a sufficient amount of bolts and etc.
thanks!

Reuse the stock brackets/bolts for the support bracket.
On the header side you will need to reuse a nut, but use 2 new bolts/nuts. You'll be fine just don't reuse the stock gaskets.

I just installed my Berk HFC's and 2 studs came off with each factory cat.
The bracket/brace needed 2 new bolts as the OE ones wont come off.
I reused the metal gaskets at the header as I was told by Berk they are re-useable.
Used 2 new gasket at the HFC outlet.
No leaks so far.

Those guys are smoking crack saying not to use impact tools. An impact isn't going to damage an o2 sensor unless you're using the impact on the 02 sensor itself. An impact on it's lowest setting will make short work of every rusty and heat cycled bolt on the exhaust. You need the impact to break loose the rust that typically builds on the bolts and nuts. Using a breaker bar on a very resistant bolt will almost always end in disaster. That video is useful, but most everyone working on the G and Z is going to be working on one that has some miles on it therefore corroded bolts/nuts.
I do think I busted something in my hand when the first one broke loose and I slammed it into the frame. Kinda put a damper on the rest of the job
i used a torch and impact on the rusty old bolts. then a nice 4ft extension bar to get to the header bolts. i got to use a lift thanks to my friends and that definately helped alot. Also he had a pivoting socket wrench that helped out too. something like this:

it took me just under 2 hours. did wish i had some help from a friend, but they would have just gotten in the way in the end.
i did use an impact gun, but only to remove. overall i had fun doing it, unlike my exhaust. didn't end up using that weird joint thing either.
