Is catalytic converter shielding removable?

My G35x was born and raised in the frozen North, so she's got a tad bit of rust on her underbits.

This is clear because I just removed a (smallish) rusted piece of the shielding from one of my cats. Trouble is, the thing is so rusted, it is loose even though it's still attached, causing an annoying rattle at idle (can't hear it with doors shut/windows up).

Can this shielding be removed entirely or will I end up letting road salt and rust get places I don't want? Should it be left alone? Is there some heat resistant glue/tape that is useful for this purpose? My current train of thought is to either take it off, or secure it with a big hose clamp.

I think you could take them off even though it might take some "gentle persuasion"

I do have my OEM cats off my 06 coupe sitting in my garage. I replaced them with HFCs at about 45k. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in them.

just cut it off. They are not essential. The rattling/vibration would kill me.
