Y-pipes for AWD sedans
Yes you can - I run stock cats > M2 Y-pipe > Motordyne VQ on an '04 X. I had a muffler shop install because I didn't want to mess with rusted bolts, but they didn't mention any fitment issues whatsoever.
In my opinion the M2 is the best option for me because my y-back section is 3.00" inlet. If you are running stock exhaust (2.5" inlet or so), you might be better off with a stock pipe since you might run into rasp issues with larger diameter going into smaller diameter.
For me, going 2 to 2.5 to 3 is ideal. Once I put the M2 pipe on, I finally felt like my car was "complete," and apart from the occasional rattle exorcism, I haven't modded since.

sorry for the massive late bump, I noticed AAM Competition was unconfirmed
Well let me confirm that it DOES NOT fit. We had an X customer come in and it does not clear the TC

This can be confirmed by comparing the 04 vs 04.5 Tech Manuals. the 04 shows the "T" pipe.. the 04.5 shows the "Y" pipe.
I have the same question, since I literally just bought both the m2 y pipe and the coupe midpipe....
