I have the Stillen Cat Back exhaust installed on my 04 coupe. I was wondering where the "sputter" comes from when I take my foot off the gas from moderate load acceleration or high rpm downshifting? Can this "sputter" be eliminated?

I think people refer to this as the 'cough.' I don't think there's a way to get rid of it either.

I heard a Stillen exhaust for the first time in person last week and this is what turned me off from the exhaust.

 

Hmm, i've had mine on a few days now and I have not noticed any sputter sound.

You should be able to hear it if you keep he door open and in park rev the engine and take you foot quickly off the gas. Mine will sputter just before the rpms get back down to idle.
There does seem to be a reduction after the installation of the z-tube.

Ah maybe thats why i dont hear it, i had the z tube and stillen big air intake installed at the same time as the exhuast...
