Possible stillen exhaust on the cheap
Possible stillen exhaust on the cheap
My buddy has a Stillen exhaust that was taken off of a G that was traded. He will sell it to me for $250, seems like a killer deal. It is (I beleive full setup) he showed it to me, it took 2 guys to manuever it throgh the shop, I beleive from the headers back. My question is, not knowing if this is a Gen 1 or 2 version, is this daily driving material? I am in sales drive alot and have customers in the car at times. I would like the horsepower gain, weight reduction and presumably sound, but do not want a ricer sound. Can you give me your 2 cents based on your experience......
That's a sick deal. The reasons why I wouldn't recommend it to you is:
1. Since you drive around Customers in your car you may not want the added sound that the Stillen has.
2. For $250 I want the exhuast so just send your friend my way!

His sig say's he drives a G35X.
If his friend's Stillen exhaust is a Gen 1, it definately has to be modified because the piping from the cats to the crossover is different. What I don't remember is, if the Gen 2 fit's the "X" out of the box. I do remember the Gen 2 was a fix for the freeway droan issue that plauged the Gen 1 system (which I experienced first hand is 2 sedan's that had a Gen 1 system).

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

If you tote customers around you probably don't want an exhaust that has any drone. I got rid of the HKS / coupe mid combo for that very reason. I do miss the polished muffler though.
Drone is a level frequency that can cause a very deep and steady hum. It's commonly met with an increase in vibration (felt in your body) due to the frequency. Drone is more prevalent with automatics because the autos operate in the range of where the drone occurs (1800 to 3000rpms). My Borla true dual droned pretty bad and I've read that the Borla has less drone that either gen Stillen catbacks. I got rid of the Borla after 2 weeks because of the drone, especially in the back seat area where my children sit. It was almost hard on your ears at certain rpms, almost like a open sunroof buffeting effect.
If you take clients out, I would recommend against getting the Stillen exhaust. The drone will be noticeable around town. If you want more exhaust noise without any drone, add the 350Z HR y-pipe and a 03/04 sedan muffler.

Yes it does. Steal of a deal, buy it even if you don't plan to use it yourself. Having run one on an auto car, I too would recommend against hauling customers around in a car so equipped.
