Welding the Borla True Dual?

Hey all just got my Borla True Dual for my G35 6MT Coupe. I was told by two friends that they would get it welded because it was a bolt on and there were so many places to leak....

Has anyone here done that and/or have any leaking problems with just a bolt on install?

Thanks for any time spent to respond..

TC

If you torque to to spec and use the right gaskets it shouldn't leak. If you get it welded then its probably just as likely that one of the welds could crack, depending on the skill of your welder.

I haven't had any leak problems with my Fuji yet.

I agree with what Roneski said, just torque all the provided clamps to specification and you shoud have no leaks and make sure the h-pipe is pressed firmly together before you torque the clamp in between. Then check for any clearance issues with any of the pipes so no rubbing occurs (you'll hear it if it anything rubs - my right exhaust pipe did near the sway bar). I've had no leaks since I installed this exhaust.

If i'm not mistaken, Borla has that million mile warranty for our exhausts so if you weld anything you void it.

Some people used some type of sealant at the joints when they installed their Borla's. I don't remember what it was. Do a search and you'll probably find it. I didn't weld mine or use any sealants and I don't think I have any leaks.

I used Permatex Hylomar HPF gasket dressing and flange sealant. Available at my local Autozone. They also make this stuff which would probably be ideal, but I didn't see it anywhere locally.

I used Permatex #81878 "Ultra Copper" high temp RTV silicone on my Stillen. There were a couple of clamp joints with visible gaps that needed to be sealed.

Found a pic that illustrates the problem (on a Stillen):
