Bore my Cats? Or Kinetix?

A mechanic I know offered to do the 5 hour bore process for my stock cat, to clean, open, and widen the filaments out (he said something about leaving the two ends alone and boring out the midsection. If this costs me $200, it's still cheaper than buying a Kinetix and installing for $400.

I have 3 questions:

1) Would this throw a CEL light?

2) Would it be Ozone-unfriendly?

3) And is it even possible that it would give HP gains?

I don't want to be obscenely loud or smelly. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

I think what he's referring you to is gutting the stock cat.. I think this won't throw a CEL light and won't give you much of a smell since there will be "honey comb" filter there. It won't really give you much of a gain but will make your stock sound abit more unique. If he's charging $200, just buy some Kinetix or Fast Intentions HFC. If you don't like it, atleast you'll be able to go back to your cats and sell the HFC's.. But what will you do with the cats once you gut them out?

any advice about the NI carbon fiber muffler 4.5"? 15 bucks on ebay. apparently makes it sound better. Hell beats $1200 for a HKS cat. Looking for a nice throaty sound like the rest of us. already have a fujita short ram. Not tryna have my sh*t sound like a honda. Any advice would be appreciated

Link? To be honest, you get what you pay for. Try it out, only $15 bucks and if you like it then keep it.. If not, take it off

honestly i think you're trying to cheap out a bit too much.
a welded in muffler for $15? can you honestly think it'll be good quality nor sound good?

of course it'll advertise that it'll sound better, i mean you can't compare a muffler to a full cat back exhaust that has been proven like the HKS to sound better, make more power and be lighter.

also about your cats, i wouldn't gut them incase you need them later for emissions testing, i'd just go and buy the HFCS or get resonated test pipes.
