I got a 05 g35x. The shield that covers both cats, are all rusted up and cracked. I have alot of rattling sound from that area. Im assuming its the shield that covers the cats. Can I remove the shield? would this cause any problems?

^^^ I had that problem with the previous coupe as well... I'm not sure if the new owner did or not but he was going to take them off as well because it was really annoying when the car was parked and put into and drive and reverse.

I took mine off and coat with rubberized truck bed liner. Dampen sound! Installed and retightened. No rattling

Well, I think the heat shields are there for a purpose. The cats are usually the hottest part of the entire exhaust system. The cats are also close to other parts, so the heat shields are there to prevent heat from the cats to destroy other parts.

Mine rattled too. North Eastern winters were not too kind to my cars underbody. I'm pretty sure you could just cut them off, but I would probably coat them to take care of some of that heat.
