Test Pipes or HFC?

Hey all,

I'm in this dilemma right now between Fast Intentions test pipes or high flow cats (havnt really picked a brand yet for HFC's). I live in VA so test pipes are illegal, but I can get it passed by a buddy so thats not much of a problem. Also, I want to break 300hp. I currently have an injen CAI, stillen y-pipe, tanabe catback, and will be putting in the 5/16 isothermal spacers soon. I don't want to do headers and test pipes/hfc cause then it'll be way too loud for a daily driver. I was hoping to see if anyone on the forum had the same set up and finds that test pipes make too much of a raspy sound? And what kind of gains do you see with these test pipes?

Thanks in advanced

i'll share my test pipes experience with you. I recently got the injen true dual catback installed along with intense power resonated test pipes. The sound was amazing, but wayyyy too loud for a daily driver. I honestly couldn't hear anything when driving around, sometimes i would get a head ache from the loudness and gas fumes. I couldn't take it anymore after couple weeks so took them off and installed my stock cats back on. I would suggest getting HFCs. I also noticed a huge drop in low end torque with test pipes, which is expected but it felt weird.

I would go ART pipes over test pipes any day, if I was already making my car non-smog legal I would at least go for the option that gives you the most return...

No doubt best bang for the buck Should be around $140-150

Also, if you will throw down $400-500 for HFC, might as well get ART Pipes for $600 (i think thats what they cost)

Berk HFC better than anything ive heard.. and good bang for the buck as well.. They are 49 state legal except california and above all you get more power with them and an exotic pitch tone to your ride.

I have similar mods to you just with a stock catback.

- Injen CAI
- MREV2
- 5/16" iso-thermal spacer
- HR y-pipe
- Kinetix resonated test pipes

Here are a few videos of mine revving, driving by, and at the track for comparison. The test pipes with stock catback still keep a throaty VQ sound, just a decent bit louder than stock. I like how it sounds right now. If you go with test pipes, I'd recommend resonated ones to cut down on exhaust rasp.

Depending on where you live I would probably get HFCs. The Berks and Fast Intentions are nice. Are you looking for 300 hp at the the crank or at the wheels?

Your not going to get anywhere near 300whp with any mods mentioned in this thread other than the Spacer.
