Aftermarket CAI do boost HP but it's not nearly what the manufactures claim. What's really cool is the sound our CAIs create from 3K RPMS up....love it!

And a Short Ram Warm Air Intake do so too. But the dyno was done on a car with the hood open and 2 big fans blowing into it.

I think the filter does more than the piping. The Stock intake may also be restrictive so maybe a 350z intake with the stock rev-up box is fine.

Longer piping in a cold air intake forces the air to travel at a longer distance.

I don't care about the sound from the intake. I rather hear the exhaust.

No no, I never said shiny was bad, I was just making a point that shiny doesn't mean gains.

There are negligible gains for anything past a high flow air filter (like the K&N for expample). In other words, you are paying the extra money for the fancy, not for gains. That doesn't mean it's not a valid reason to buy the shiny CAI. Some people like showing off the bling in engine bay, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Combo the high flow filter with a straight pipe and a plenum spacer, and you will hear and fell a difference.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: BTW Gary, I agree %100 on your second statement. Money.

I just bought and installed a stillen z-tube and a JWT pop charger. It looks cool, but it sound amazing, so much better than stock and many other CAI's I've heard. I also felt a bit of a difference after driving it around, I think it gave a few HP

Did you read Rob's test? He theorized that the cone filter (vs. the stock panel filter) "tricks" the ECU to believe more air is coming into the engine than is actually flowing through the filter. It may be because the panel filter has a smoothing effect on the air.

The Poop Charger is also still exposed, but less so than other intakes.

Why waste the money? Stock is great... if you really want to get the "best" stock setup get the Rev-up box with an Amsoil DRY filter.
